The Work:

As a Project Engineer, you will report to the Design-Build Line of Business Managerand play a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of construction projects by serving as a vital link between the field and office operations. You will be responsible for coordinating and managing project documentation, facilitating communication between subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams, and ensuring that all work is executed in compliance with project plans, specifications, and schedules. Your day-to-day tasks may include preparing and tracking submittals, RFIs, and change orders, assisting in budget and cost management, supporting the superintendent and project manager with field logistics, and participating in site visits to monitor progress and address any challenges that arise. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Success in this position means keeping the project organized, on track, and running smoothly, while fostering collaboration and maintaining a high standard of quality and safety throughout the construction process.

This position is REMOTE, but you must be able to travel to client sites up to 20% of the time. Due to the location of the majority of our clients, candidates in the Eastern Time Zone of the United States are preferred, especially candidates in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Opportunities for longer term deployment to support project execution may be made available on a case-by-case basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of project schedules, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout documentation.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, and engineers to ensure timely and accurate project communication.
  • Review and process project submittals and RFI’s to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Process drawings and specifications and facilitate file sharing with team members.
  • Track project costs and assist with estimates and quotes in support of larger effort.
  • Conduct site visits and support field staff with technical and logistical needs.
  • Maintain project documentation and ensure records are up to date and organized.
  • Help monitor construction progress and assist in resolving issues that may arise.
  • Support safety compliance and help enforce job site safety standards.
  • Maintain organized workflows and apply effective problem-solving strategies to ensure efficient operations.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and take the initiative when the opportunity strikes.
  • Support project security vetting and site access for Chinook team, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in meetings and provide updates on project status, risks, and action items.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field and at least 1 year of construction experience including internships/co-ops.
  • Requires a strong understanding of construction documents, processes, and terminology.
  • Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Citizenship/Clearance Requirements:

  • Applicants for employment must be U.S. Citizens and must be able to obtain and maintain up to a Top Secret clearance due to our customer requirements and the nature of the work that we do.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An Active Secret or higher Security Clearance.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Micro Station to prepare design plans.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or other construction software.

Physical Considerations:

  • Must be able to walk construction sites with uneven surfaces, carry up to 25 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, and work both indoors and outdoors in severe weather conditions, and in dust generating environments.
  • Must be able to crawl to get to wherever a problem is so that you can see it for yourself.
  • Applicants must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
