Job summary

Horrocks is seeking an experienced Rail Project Engineer to design and lead rail projects from inception to completion. The role requires strong railroad design knowledge, grading, rail layout, and CAD expertise to guide projects and ensure regulatory compliance.

You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, attend client meetings, and travel to project sites and conferences. A PE license and at least four years of rail or site development experience are required, with opportunities for growth

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of rail, transit, or site development experience.
  • Proficiency with CAD and MS Office.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for rail projects under multiple Project Managers.
  • Assist PMs by training junior staff in CAD to deliver on schedule and budget.
  • Attend client meetings and strengthen client relationships through delivery of projects.
  • Coordinate with agencies across states to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures throughout project development.
  • Collaborate with PMs to grow into project management.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and industry conferences.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Rail Project Engineer to design and lead rail projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of railroad design, grading, rail layout, rail corridors, federal and state regulations, and a strong competency in CAD. This role will involve strengthening client relationships, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring successful project delivery.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?
  • Lead design efforts for and support Project Managers manage an array of small to large rail projects simultaneously.
  • Assist the Project Manager assign and train junior staff to work proficiently in CAD to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Attend client meetings and support the strengthening of client relationships by contributing to meetings and delivering projects successfully.
  • Coordinate with governing agencies across multiple states to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Implement quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures throughout project development.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to gain deeper understanding of business practices and grow into Project management.
  • Travel occasionally to rail project sites, in person client meeting, and industry conferences.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in rail, transit or site development projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
