Job summary

Horrocks in Pleasant Grove, UT, is seeking a Rail Project Engineer to lead rail projects from inception to completion. The role requires deep rail design knowledge, grading, rail layout, and regulatory compliance, with strong CAD skills and client relationship experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of rail, transit or site development project experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for and support Project Managers to manage rail projects from inception to completion.
  • Assist the Project Manager to assign and train junior staff to work in CAD to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Attend client meetings and support strengthening client relationships by contributing to meetings and delivering projects.
  • Coordinate with governing agencies across multiple states to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures throughout project development.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to grow into Project Management.
  • Travel occasionally to rail project sites, in-person client meetings, and industry conferences.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Rail Project Engineer to design and lead rail projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of railroad design, grading, rail layout, rail corridors, federal and state regulations, and a strong competency in CAD. This role will involve strengthening client relationships, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring successful project delivery.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?
  • Lead design efforts for and support Project Managers manage an array of small to large rail projects simultaneously.
  • Assist the Project Manager assign and train junior staff to work proficiently in CAD to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Attend client meetings and support the strengthening of client relationships by contributing to meetings and delivering projects successfully.
  • Coordinate with governing agencies across multiple states to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Implement quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures throughout project development.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to gain deeper understanding of business practices and grow into Project management.
  • Travel occasionally to rail project sites, in person client meeting, and industry conferences.
