Job summary

LER TechForce in Oakland County, Michigan seeks an Onboard Charging Systems Engineer to develop and validate OBC solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure robust charging systems and maintain compliance with industry standards.

The role requires hands-on development and testing across MiL/SiL/HiL environments, with emphasis on system requirements, control strategies, and HV integration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronics or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Onboard Charging Systems (OBC), EV charging, or electrified powertrains.
  • Strong understanding of onboard charger architectures and HV vehicle architectures.
  • Experience developing system and functional requirements.
  • Familiarity with CCS, SAE J1772, DIN 70121, ISO 15118 charging standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, validate, and optimize onboard charging solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • Develop charging system requirements and control strategies for charging hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliant charging solutions for electrified platforms.
  • Lead the integration of onboard charging with high-voltage architectures and conduct MiL/SiL/HiL testing.
  • Analyze charging performance, thermal behavior, reliability, and fault management; create test plans.

What you will be doing:

  • Work on the development, integration, validation, and optimization of onboard charging solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • Develop charging system requirements, charging control strategies, system integration, and verification and validation of hardware and software functions.
  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure robust, efficient, and compliant charging solutions for electrified vehicle platforms.
  • Develop and manage system-level and functional requirements for onboard charging systems.
  • Design, develop, and optimize charging control strategies for AC charging applications.
  • Lead the integration of onboard charging systems with vehicle high-voltage architectures.
  • Support hardware and software development activities for prototype and production charging solutions.
  • Perform system verification and validation activities, including MiL, SiL, HiL, bench, and vehicle testing.
  • Analyze charging performance, efficiency, thermal behavior, reliability, and fault management strategies.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate charging functionality and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with software, controls, calibration, and hardware engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Support issue investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive safety, cybersecurity, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design evaluations, and customer discussions.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Power Electronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Onboard Charging Systems (OBC), EV Charging Systems, Power Electronics, or Electrified Powertrain Development.
  • Strong understanding of onboard charger architectures and electric vehicle charging systems.
  • Experience developing system and functional requirements.
  • Knowledge of AC charging systems, power electronics, and high-voltage vehicle architectures.
  • Experience with charging system integration and vehicle-level validation.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Embedded Coder and C/C++ development.
  • Knowledge of EV charging standards and protocols including CCS, SAEJ1772, DIN 70121, and ISO 15118.
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI testing and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience with AUTOSAR architecture and embedded software development.
  • Understanding of Functional Safety (ISO 26262).
  • Knowledge of Automotive Cybersecurity (ISO 21434).
  • Understanding of AC/DC Conversion, Power Factor Correction (PFC), and DC/DC Conversion Technologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with charging control strategies, diagnostics, and fault management.
  • Knowledge of high‑voltage systems including contactors, HV interlocks, and charging safety concepts.
  • Experience with CAN, CAN FD, UDS diagnostics, and vehicle communication networks.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink.
