Job summary

Abbott Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Project Manager and Superintendent through all project phases. You will manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, budgets, and scheduling while maintaining safety standards and coordinating with subcontractors.

Qualified candidates have a 4-year construction degree, 2 years of project engineering experience, and a willingness to pursue a long-term career in construction; healthcare construction experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the submittal process.
  • Manage the RFI process.
  • Manage the change order proposal process.
  • Provide support for PM and Supt with tasks and data entry.
  • Complete budget revisions and modifications in Viewpoint.
  • Support safety aligned with company values.
  • Coordinate planning, scheduling, and project coordination.
  • Assist estimating by soliciting subcontractors and distributing plans.
  • Be the main contact for subcontractors as requested by PM.
  • Act as Project Manager when PM is unavailable.

The Project Engineer (PE) shall support the Project Manager (PM), and Superintendent (Supt) as required for them to meet their goals through all phases of a project.

Primary Duties

  • Responsible for managing the submittal process
  • Responsible for managing the RFI process
  • Responsible for managing the change order proposal process
  • Provide research, backup support, legwork, data entry etc. as requested by the PM and Supt
  • Complete budget revisions and modifications in Viewpoint as required throughout the job
  • Assist to maintain a high level of safety in alignment with Abbott's core values
  • Ability to combine knowledge of engineering methods, construction methods and human management skills
  • Provide support for planning, scheduling and coordinating projects to meet deadlines
  • Offer support to the estimating department by soliciting subcontractors for projects as well as managing and distributing plans
  • Be the main point of contact for subcontractors as requested by the Project Manager
  • If needed, act as a Project Manager when a Project Manager is unavailable

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • 4-year degree in a construction related major
  • Motivated for a long-term career in construction
  • 2 years' project engineering experience
  • Preferred experience in healthcare construction and fast-paced construction managing multiple projects concurrently
  • A focus on following processes and procedures, taking ownership of the role, and not being afraid of difficult conversations and relaying bad news when required

The full salary range for this position is $78,000 to $105,000. This position is eligible for a target bonus.
