Job summary

NW Construction, Inc. in Bozeman, MT is hiring Project Engineer Interns to join our heavy civil team. Projects span dams, infrastructure, RCC, and site work across the Western United States, with project sites generally located in Montana and beyond.

Interns gain hands-on experience in cost control, forecasting, pay estimates, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, material deliveries, and project scheduling while working closely with field crews in a dynamic construction environment.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be willing to travel and relocate for project sites across the Western United States.
• Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Involved in cost control and analysis of construction costs.
• Participate in monthly forecasting of revenue and costs accruals.
• Prepare monthly pay estimates and assist with change orders and RFIs.
• Coordinate and schedule shop drawings and submittals with the Project Manager.
• Maintain records of submittals, approvals, and resubmittals.
• Assist in managing material deliveries and ensure inspection adherence.
• Support development and updates to project schedules.
• Collaborate with field construction personnel to improve workflow.

Summary

NW Construction, Inc. (NWC) is currently hiring Project Engineer Interns to join our Team. NW Construction is a Heavy Civil Construction Contractor based in Bozeman, Montana. NWC specializes in heavy civil construction, taking on projects both large and small. Our work encompasses many areas of the construction industry, including but not limited to: Dams, Hydroelectric, RCC,Concrete, Large and Small Diameter Piping, Sheet Piling, Site Work, Utilities, Slurry Walls, Demolition, Marine, Environmental Work, Drill and Shoot and Aggregate Processing. Project sites are generally located in Montana and the western United States.

At NWC, we go where the work is, which exposes you to exciting opportunities. We relocate our teams based on the work that is available. While our home office is located in Bozeman, MT, our project sites are generally located throughout the Western United States.

Essential Functions

• High level of involvement in the operations of our cost control system and analysis of construction costs.
• Participate in monthly forecasting revenue and costs accruals.
• Accumulate all necessary data and prepare monthly pay estimates.
• Process and estimate change orders and Requests for Information as directed by Project Manager.
• Coordinate and schedule shop drawings and submittals.
• Maintain a complete and current record of submittals, approvals, and resubmittals, including a file of letters of transmittal and dates of each transaction.
• Process/manage material deliveries – ensure that materials received are properly inspected for quantity and quality and in compliance with Contract documents.
• Manage and negotiate subcontractor and material contracts.
• Assist in developing and updating project schedule.
• Work closely with field construction personnel (Superintendents, Foremen and Crews).
• Provide suggestions to refine workflow and boost efficiency.

Work Environment

• Active construction site, mining area, or other industrial setting where large scale projects are taking place.
• Working around various heavy equipment operations.
• Exposure to various weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
• Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.
• Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business Administration (Accounting, Management or Finance), Construction Management or related field.
• Must be willing to travel and relocate. Project sites are located throughout the Western United States, so relocation and/or travel are required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in the heavy civil construction industry
• OSHA 10/OSHA 30 Certification a plus
• Current first aid/CPR certification a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
• Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, climb or crawl.
• Ability to maintain balance.
• Ability to safely and effectively perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
