Job summary

NW Construction, Inc. (NWC) is seeking Project Engineer Interns for Summer 2027. Based in Bozeman, MT, we operate on heavy civil projects across the Western United States.

Interns will participate in cost control, forecasting, pay estimates, RFIs, submittals, scheduling, and coordination with field crews to support project teams on diverse infrastructure work.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled as a full‑time undergraduate student pursuing an engineering, business administration (accounting, management or finance), construction management or related field.
• Must be willing to travel and relocate; project sites are throughout the Western United States.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• High level of involvement in the operations of our cost control system and analysis of construction costs.
• Participate in monthly forecasting revenue and costs accruals.
• Accumulate all necessary data and prepare monthly pay estimates.
• Process and estimate change orders and RFIs as directed by Project Manager.
• Coordinate and schedule shop drawings and submittals.
• Maintain a complete and current record of submittals, approvals, and resubmittals, including a file of letters of transmittal and dates of each transaction.
• Process/manage material deliveries ensure materials received are inspected for quantity and quality and in compliance with Contract documents.
• Manage and negotiate subcontractor and material contracts.
• Assist in developing and updating project schedule.
• Work closely with field construction personnel (Superintendents, Foremen and Crews).
• Provide suggestions to refine workflow and boost efficiency.

Position Description

Summary

NW Construction, Inc. (NWC) is currently hiring Project Engineer Interns to join our Team. NW Construction is a Heavy Civil Construction Contractor based in Bozeman, Montana. NWC specializes in heavy civil construction, taking on projects both large and small. Our work encompasses many areas of the construction industry, including but not limited to: Dams, Hydroelectric, RCC, Concrete, Large and Small Diameter Piping, Sheet Piling, Site Work, Utilities, Slurry Walls, Demolition, Marine, Environmental Work, Drill and Shoot and Aggregate Processing. Project sites are generally located in Montana and the western United States.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
2. Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
3. Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver's License.
4. Must be currently enrolled as a full‑time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business Administration (Accounting, Management or Finance), Construction Management or related field.
5. Must be willing to travel and relocate. Project sites are located throughout the Western United States, so relocation and/or travel are required.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Previous experience in the heavy civil construction industry
2. OSHA 10/OSHA 30 Certification a plus
3. Current first aid/CPR certification a plus

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide‑ranging climates and environments.
2. Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, climb or crawl.
3. Ability to maintain balance.
4. Ability to safely and effectively perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
