Job summary

MTech Mechanical, Inc. offers a 13-week Project Engineer Internship in Westminster, CO. This program provides hands-on exposure to engineering, design, field operations, and project management within commercial mechanical construction.

You will work with engineers, project managers, field staff, and other teams on active projects, visiting jobsites and contributing to real deliverables while learning how office decisions translate to installed HVAC and plumbing systems.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Prefer students entering junior or senior year.
• Interest in commercial construction, building systems, mechanical design, field operations, or project management.
• A curious, proactive approach to learning and willingness to ask thoughtful questions, take initiative, and follow through on commitments.
• Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and general computer applications.
• Ability and willingness to work in both professional office and active construction-site environments and to follow all safety requirements.
• Coursework or prior exposure to HVAC, plumbing, construction documents, Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore, or other construction technology is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Project Operations and Coordination: support active project teams with submittals, drawings, RFIs, change docs, equipment tracking, and project records.
• Procurement support: assist with material and equipment procurement, delivery coordination, and follow-up with vendors, subcontractors, and purchasing.
• Learn how scope, schedule, budget, documentation, communication, and client commitments work together in construction.
• Engineering and Design: work with engineering team to understand design-build process; assist with HVAC or plumbing-system design tasks.
• Review drawings and technical information to understand design intent, coordination, constructability, and field installation.
• Field Operations and Craft Exposure: spend time on jobsites with field leadership to observe planning, sequencing, safety, quality, problem-solving.
• Shadow pipefitting, plumbing, and sheet metal teams to learn installation methods and coordination needs.
• Build relationships with skilled professionals who install systems and learn how engineering decisions support field execution.
• Commissioning and Project Closeout: assist with start-up, commissioning, punch-list and closeout activities as schedules allow.
• Help coordinate operations and maintenance manuals, start-up information, warranty docs, as-built drawings, and turnover requirements.
• Follow selected project activities from early coordination through completion to understand successful delivery.
• Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
