Job summary

Wohlsen Construction is seeking a Construction Project Engineer Intern in Hamden, CT for Summer 2027. You will support the project team with submittals, RFIs, and documentation while gaining hands-on experience in commercial construction management.

You'll assist with bid packages, cost tracking, schedules, site visits, and coordination with trade partners. This internship requires pursuing a related degree and proficiency with MS Office; travel to regional sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related fields.
• Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling software or construction management systems is a plus.
• Strong written communication, organization, proofreading, and follow-through skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned jobsites.

Responsibilities

About the Opportunity

Provides administrative, coordination, and project support to the project team while gaining practical experience in commercial construction management.

How You’ll Contribute

• Collect, review, process, and distribute submittals and requests for information (RFIs).
• Prepare and distribute project documentation, meeting minutes, correspondence, and project communications.
• Assist with bid package coordination, quote coverage, project billings, and draws.
• Maintain accurate project files and logs, including permits, change orders, submittals, RFIs, and closeout documentation.
• Support Project Managers with schedule updates, cost tracking, and day-to-day project management activities.
• Participate in site walks, safety inspections, quality observations, and project team meetings.
• Coordinate with trade partners, design partners, and internal team members under the direction of the project team.
• Travel to project jobsites and regional offices as assigned.

Intern Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related fields.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling software, or construction management systems is a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This internship may include office work, active job site visits, travel between offices or projects, extended periods of sitting or standing, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs or ladders, and use of required personal protective equipment. Position-specific requirements should be confirmed by Human Resources and the hiring department before posting.

Compensation: $25-$30 an hour
