Job description

Job Summary

The Project Engineer II collaborates with and supports the Area Manager on designated projects with an increased knowledge of heavy civil construction projects. Operating under limited supervision, the role entails executing routine daily tasks, as well as collecting and disseminating information. This position necessitates a flexible and adaptable team player with robust communication and client service skills. Project Engineers II may be assigned to specific tasks within the Underground or Paving divisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assisting Project Managers with multiple heavy civil projects under minimal supervision, demonstrating effective project management support and coordination;
  • Initiate, review, track, and distribute RFIs;
  • Provide value engineering and submit requests for change (RFC) to enhance the base design, identifying cost-saving opportunities through alternate design and construction methods;
  • Assess risks and maintain a track record in risk engineering, aligning with strategic planning, codes, QA/QC Plan, schedule, and time management;
  • Offer engineering support for construction efforts, participating in planning and design, interpreting designs, applying construction methods, resolving and documenting design conflicts, conducting constructability reviews, site inspections, and delivering timely technical assistance for corrective action;
  • Interface with on‑site departments to resolve issues, ensure construction quality, and support the overall project schedule;
  • Track and inspect material deliveries;
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly owner project status reports, as required;
  • Attend project meetings directed by the Project Manager and/or Area Manager;
  • Assist in proposal and contract preparation, client communication, and negotiation;
  • Contribute to or manage project close‑out processes;

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent;
  • 2 to 5 years of industry experience.
  • Knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc., plus an in-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines.
