Job summary

Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc., a subsidiary of MYR Group Inc., is seeking a Project Engineer I to support construction management in the electrical industry. You will assist with plans, specifications, and general project support for federal, state, and municipal clients.

This role requires 1–3 years in commercial electrical operations or general construction, plus aBachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CM, CE, or related field.
  • 1–3 years in commercial electrical construction or general construction.
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings; proficient with MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret construction drawings and plans.
  • Review plans and prepare checklists of contract features needing attention.
  • List submittals and items to be approved before work starts.
  • Assist with cost estimates and project scheduling as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and daily/weekly reporting.
  • Promote safety and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Inspect equipment, materials, workmanship, and progress of work.
  • Monitor progress and ensure procedures and materials meet specs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Engineer I is responsible for the support of functions related to construction management in the electrical construction industry. Projects may include performance of work for federal, state and municipal clients throughout the United States. The Project Engineer assists with the preparation of plans, applicable specifications, and interfaces with and provides general project support to senior project management professionals.

Sturgeon Electric’s Commercial and Industrial (C&I)electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. We also offer design-build and pre-construction services and has in-house pre-fabrication and AutoCAD capabilities.

Essential Functions
  • Interpret applicable construction drawings
  • Assist with the review of plans and specifications and prepare a checklist of contract features which require periodic attention
  • List items the sub-contractor must submit for approval prior to the start of the work
  • Assist with cost estimates and project scheduling as needed
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate records
  • Assist with preparing statements of work, submittals, change management and necessary daily and weekly reporting
  • Promote safety in construction operations and ensure compliance with safety requirements
  • Inspect equipment, material, workmanship and finished construction
  • Check progress of work in the field
  • Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed, and materials used conform to required specifications
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards, if applicable
ABOUT YOU
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of experience in the construction process of commercial electrical operations or general construction experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field; a combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and/or Primavera at an intermediate or higher level
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think practically while remaining detail-oriented

    • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
