Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is seeking a Project Engineer I for the SAOC Team to support planning, coordination, and execution of engineering aspects in survivable airborne operations projects.

Responsibilities include developing project plans, providing technical support to teams and customers, and preparing status reports. Travel to sites may be required; some work will occur in a hybrid office setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 8+ years in engineering roles.
  • Experience leading technical personnel (2–4 years).
  • Knowledge of requirements management, system design, and integration.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary design and development teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and maintaining project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Provide technical support to project teams and interface with customers or field-based employees.
  • Prepare and distribute regular status reports on project progress.
  • Identify and document potential project risks and assist in mitigation plans.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including specs, test plans, and meeting notes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality to ensure seamless execution.
  • Conduct engineering process analyses to standardize processes and procedures.
  • Manage multiple process development efforts in dynamic environments.
  • Lead engineering process development across multiple stakeholders.
  • Occasional travel to customer or field locations may be required.
  • Work in a hybrid environment and lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Prolonged computer work requiring hand dexterity.

Job description

Project Engineer I – SAOC Team

Support planning, coordination, and execution of the engineering aspects of product development projects within the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) mission.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Provide technical support to project teams and interface with external customers or field-based employees as needed.
  • Prepare and distribute regular status reports on project progress, highlighting key achievements and potential issues.
  • Identify and document potential project risks and assist in developing mitigation plans.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and meeting minutes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Conduct engineering process analyses to define, develop, document, and enable process and procedure standardization.
  • Manage multiple process development efforts in a dynamic test and evaluation context.
  • Lead engineering process development efforts across multiple stakeholders.
  • Occasional travel to customer or field locations may be required.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds occasionally and work in potentially hazardous environments when visiting project sites.
  • Work primarily in an office or hybrid environment.
  • Work prolonged periods on a computer and require hand and finger dexterity for computer use.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in engineering roles (or higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience).
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practice.
  • Technical process development and documentation experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience leading technical personnel.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary design and development teams.
  • Basic understanding of requirements management, system design, and integration.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Experience with technical process documentation.
  • Experience defining process workflows.
  • Familiarity with project management software (e.g., MS Project, JIRA).
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary design and development team and communicating with program management and customers.
  • Familiarity with preparation and development of project estimates, technical proposals, and program cost and schedule management.
  • Past history of leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including integrated trade studies.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics, parts lists, specifications, instructions, and test procedures.
  • Experience or certification in the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) standard.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
