Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is seeking a Project Engineer II to lead and manage activities across the product lifecycle for SAOC-related programs. You will interface with internal teams and external customers to ensure successful project execution, from design concepts to delivery, with strong emphasis on RF system architecture and risk management.

The role requires 10+ years in engineering with at least 2 years in leadership, and a TS/SCI eligibility security posture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with at least 2+ years in leadership.
  • Strong RF engineering background and RF system knowledge.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary design teams and requirements management.
  • Familiarity with INCOSE standards and program management.

Job description

SNC’s ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area is a leader in ISR and aviation, providing end‑to‑end C4ISR capabilities for the U.S. Air Force’s Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) mission. This role is part of the SNC‑led SAOC team focused on modernizing the next‑generation SAOC aircraft.

As a Project Engineer II you will be responsible for managing project activities throughout the product lifecycle, from initial design concepts to final delivery. This role requires a strong technical background, project management skills, and the ability to interface with both internal teams and external customers to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities
  • Project Management – Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Technical Oversight – Provide technical oversight and guidance to project teams, ensuring alignment with project objectives. Support preparation of technical review artifacts (PDR, CDR, TIMs, weekly IPT reviews).
  • Mission Systems COMMS IPT execution – Coordinate technical inputs, schedules, risks, and dependencies across other teams.
  • Customer Interface – Act as a primary point of contact for external customers on technical matters, ensuring their requirements are met.
  • Status Reporting – Prepare comprehensive status reports, including progress updates, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Issue Resolution – Identify project issues, develop resolution plans, and implement contingency strategies.
  • Continuous Improvement – Proactively seek opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in project management.
  • Risk Management – Develop and manage risk identification, documentation, and mitigation planning.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering roles with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong RF engineering background with experience in RF system architecture and onsite analysis.
  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering principles and practice.
  • Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary design and development team.
  • Detailed understanding of requirements management, system design, and integration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4‑6 years relevant leadership and/or project management experience.
  • Experience with advanced project management tools and methodologies.
  • In‑depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Control Account Manager (CAM) duties.
  • Experience leading a multi‑disciplinary design and development team and communicating with program management and customers.
  • Familiarity with preparation and development of project estimates, technical proposals, and program cost and schedule management.
  • Past history of leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of highly integrated trade studies and analysis of alternatives.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics, parts lists, specifications, instructions and test procedures.
  • Experience or certification in International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) standards.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
Essential Functions

  • Ability to work primarily in an office or hybrid environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
  • Hand and finger dexterity for computer use.
  • Capability to work in potentially hazardous environments when visiting project sites.
