Independence Excavating, Inc. is a leading heavy civil contractor actively growing its project engineering team in Columbus, OH.

The Project Engineer will help streamline planning, coordination, budgeting, compliance and scheduling across multiple sites. The ideal candidate has strong communication, take-off and estimation skills, plus experience reading drawings and managing project costs to maintain profit margins.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• 3–4 years of related construction experience.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Effective verbal communication with diverse stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and quality across multiple sites.
• Skilled in complete project take-offs and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Reading, understanding and interpreting drawings and specifications.
• Soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Reviewing estimated productions with Superintendents to finalize the bid.
• Preparing a detailed schedule and maintaining it.
• Assembling job cost codes and regularly updating them.
• Preparing detail for PM to submit pay estimates to Owners.
• Monitoring production, resources and job cost vs estimates to protect profit margin.
• Monitoring close-out activities: punch lists, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, final estimates and billing.
• Other tasks as needed.
