Job description

The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for supporting and coordinating technical project scopes across the Noble fleet, with a primary focus on automation, power distribution, control systems, commissioning, and equipment upgrade activities. The role supports project delivery from early planning and technical clarification through execution, testing, handover, and close-out. This position requires a practical offshore and marine background with the ability to work across multiple disciplines, including engineering, operations, marine, compliance, procurement, vendors, shipyards, class, and project management. The role is suited to an electrical professional with approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience who can combine solid technical knowledge with structured project execution, safe work practices, clear stakeholder communication, and strong follow-up on cost, schedule, quality, and risk. The position is broader than a pure commissioning role and should be able to support general project engineering activities while bringing electrical and offshore systems competence to modification, upgrade, reactivation, and operational readiness scopes.

Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Execution

Coordinate and support project scopes from planning through execution, commissioning, handover, and close-out. Support modification projects, equipment upgrades, recertification scopes, reactivation activities, and operational readiness work on offshore drilling rigs. Provide electrical and automation input to project work packs, technical specifications, statements of requirements, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, procurement packages, and execution plans. Monitor project progress, identify technical and execution risks, and proactively support mitigation of constraints related to safety, quality, cost, schedule, logistics, resources, and operational readiness.

Technical Review & Documentation

Review drawings, vendor documents, specifications, procedures, test plans, commissioning records, and close-out documentation to support safe project delivery. Support inspections, FATs, commissioning, functional testing, trials, and other required acceptance testing. Maintain organized project records, including correspondence, drawings, redlines, specifications, procedures, vendor data, test records, and close-out files. Prepare project reports, updates, technical notes, lessons learned, and responses to technical queries.

Stakeholder Coordination

Coordinate with vendors, contractors, consultants, shipyards, class representatives, company agents, local support functions, and internal departments to maintain clear interfaces and effective execution. Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Marine, Compliance, Procurement, and project stakeholders to resolve technical queries, support decision-making, and align project execution with business needs. Support coordination of logistics, materials, spares, services, and site activities related to assigned project scopes.

Technical Support & MOC Activities

Provide troubleshooting and technical support for electrical, automation, power distribution, control, drilling support, and related marine systems. Support MOC activities, including technical reviews, redlines, documentation and procedure updates, and handover materials. Help ensure project work meets company procedures, industry standards, vendor requirements, class and regulatory expectations, and safety protocols. Perform other assigned duties and projects.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or a related technical discipline.

Approximately 5–10 years of relevant offshore, marine, drilling, shipyard, or industrial project experience, preferably from MODUs, drillships, semi-submersibles, FPSOs, offshore vessels, or similar complex assets.

Technical Skills

Working knowledge of electrical and automation systems, including HV/LV distribution, switchboards, PMS, drives, motors, UPS, instrumentation, safety systems, controls, and interfaces. Experience with commissioning, testing, inspection, maintenance support, upgrades, repairs, or equipment acceptance in offshore, marine, shipyard, or vendor settings. Able to review technical documents, drawings, procedures, vendor deliverables, spares requests, work packs, test records, and close-out files. Familiar with MS Office 365, MS Project, IFS, maintenance systems, document control tools, or similar platforms.

Professional Competencies

Strong project engineering skills, including planning, budget support, procurement follow-up, vendor coordination, risk assessment, schedule awareness, and escalation. Practical problem-solver with sound judgment on safety, quality, cost, schedule, and operational impact. Works independently across office, shipyard, vendor, and offshore settings while keeping teams informed. Communicates technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. High ownership, positive mindset, and flexibility to support project and operational needs. Willing to travel domestically and internationally to offshore, shipyard, vendor, and project sites. Committed to safety, compliance, and company procedures throughout project execution.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with offshore drilling equipment, marine power, DP support, automation, cranes, thrusters, or safety and control systems. Experience with major offshore or marine vendors/platforms such as ABB, Kongsberg, NOV, Siemens, Schneider, Rockwell, GE, Wärtsilä, Rolls-Royce, or similar. Experience with shipyards, newbuilds, conversions, upgrades, reactivation, class work, or major maintenance campaigns. Experience supporting an owner’s representative, discipline lead, site supervisor, or technical focal point during execution.

Working Conditions

This role involves a combination of onshore office-based work and travel to offshore rigs, shipyards, and vendor facilities as required by assigned project scopes. The position requires flexibility in working hours to accommodate coordination across time zones with offshore crews and international project teams. Domestic and international travel is expected, including attendance at offshore locations, shipyards, vendor facilities, and project execution sites.
