Job summary

Alphahire is seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of commercial electrical construction projects throughout preconstruction to closeout. You will work with Project Managers, Superintendents, field crews, subcontractors and suppliers to keep projects organized, on schedule and financially on track.

This role offers hands-on mentorship and a clear path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles within a growing electrical contractor in the Detroit metro area.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in commercial construction or electrical projects.
• Experience with a commercial electrical contractor or specialist is a plus.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, specs, contracts and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers from preconstruction to closeout.
• Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, logs and documentation.
• Review drawings, specs, contracts and schedules for accuracy.
• Coordinate with project team, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Track procurement, deliveries and milestones.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
• Attend project meetings and site visits; support BIM/coordination.
• Maintain project files, minutes and document control.
• Assist with material takeoffs, commissioning and closeout.
• Ensure compliance with specs, standards and safety expectations.

We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the delivery of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. Working alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors, this role will help keep projects organized, on schedule, and financially on track.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers with planning and execution of commercial electrical projects from preconstruction through closeout.
• Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and project documentation.
• Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
• Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long‑lead items, and key project milestones.
• Assist with scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
• Participate in project meetings, site visits, coordination meetings, and progress reviews.
• Collaborate with estimating and BIM/VDC teams on constructability, coordination, and installation planning.
• Maintain accurate project files, meeting minutes, correspondence, and document control.
• Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, commissioning, logistics, and project closeout.
• Help identify and resolve scheduling, procurement, documentation, and field coordination issues.Support compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, company standards, and safety objectives.

• 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
• Experience with a commercial electrical contractor or specialty electrical subcontractor preferred.
• Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, sequencing, and field operations.
• Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced construction environment.
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
• Experience with healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, or other complex commercial projects is a plus.
