Job summary

Goodfellow Bros Inc is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Kapolei, Oahu team. The PE reports to Regional Management and collaborates with owners, subcontractors, and agencies to ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery.

The role emphasizes leadership, cost control, and effective communication across engineering and field teams, with opportunities to mentor junior staff and manage project documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering is required or preferred.
  • Experience leading project teams and managing engineering tasks.
  • Familiarity with cost control, budgeting, and scheduling in heavy civil projects.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the technical aspects of assigned projects and works with owners, subcontractors, and agencies.
  • Supports project execution by managing daily engineering and administrative functions.
  • Prepares budgets and tracks cost performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepares monthly progress billings to support timely owner payments.
  • Supervises and mentors project staff.

JobSummary

TheProjectEngineer(PE)reportstotheRegionalManagementordesignatedProjectManagerandisresponsibleforadministratingthetechnicalaspectsofassignedprojects.ThePEworkscloselywithowners,subcontractors,vendors,utilitycompaniesandlocalstateandfederalagenciestoensureworkisbeingcompletedonscheduleandonbudget.ThePEalsoworksharmoniouslywiththecraftandsalaryemployeescreatingateamenvironmentandmaysuperviseotheremployees.

ProjectLeadership&Execution
  • ExpertlyperformsallresponsibilitiesofProjectEngineerIandIIwhileassumingincreasedleadership,decision-makingauthority,andaccountability.
  • Supportsthesuccessfulexecutionofconstructionprojectsbymanagingdailyengineeringandadministrativefunctions.
  • Assistsintranslatingestimatesintocomprehensiveprojectbudgetsandmonitorscostperformancethroughouttheprojectlifecycle.
  • Preparesperiodicandpercent-completesummariesandcontributestoaccurateprojectforecastingandreporting.
  • PreparesmonthlyprogressbillingstosupporttimelyandaccuratepaymentfromOwners.
Subcontractor&VendorManagement
  • Leadsthemanagementofsubcontractorsbytrackingprogress,reviewingperformance,approvingpayapplications,andacceptingcompletedwork.
  • Participatesinsubcontractnegotiationsandsupportssubcontractpreparationandexecution.
  • PreparessubcontractChangeOrdersforapprovalbytheProjectManagerorauthorizedsupervisor.
  • ReviewsvendorandsupplierquotationsincoordinationwiththeProjectEstimatorandensurestimelyprocurementofcontractmaterials.
  • Coordinatesmaterialdeliveryschedulestoalignwithprojectsequencingandschedulerequirements.
ChangeManagement&CostControl
  • Prepares,submits,andnegotiatesOwnerChangeOrderrequests,includingdirectlabor,equipment,materials,subcontractcosts,andprojectoverhead.
  • MaintainsaccurateandcurrentChangeOrderlogsandactivelyfollowsuponapprovalstominimizefinancialrisk.
  • CoordinateswiththeProjectManagerregardingstrategyandtimingforpursuingoutstandingChangeOrdersandpayments.
  • CorrespondswithOwnersandClientstoresolvepaymentissuesandprotecttheCompany’sfinancialinterests.
Scheduling&Planning
  • Develops,maintains,andupdatestheprojectCPMscheduleandshort-termworkplans.
  • Finalizesshoring,formwork,andtrafficcontrolplansandsecuresrequiredapprovalsfromapplicableagencies.
  • CommunicatesapprovedplansandschedulestotheProjectManagerandprojectteamtosupporteffectiveexecution.
Safety,Quality&Compliance
  • Overseetheimplementationofproject-specificsafetyplans,safetymeetings,methodstatements,andsafeworkpractices.
  • EnsurescompliancewithCompanypoliciesandallapplicablestateandfederalsafetyregulations.
  • Understands,applies,andupholdstherequirementsofapplicableunionmasteragreements.
  • Maintainsrequiredcertifications,includingCPR,AED,andFirstAid.
Communication&StakeholderRelations
  • Draftsformalcorrespondence,reports,anddocumentationtosupportprojectexecutionandprotectCompanyinterests.
  • EstablishesandmaintainsstrongworkingrelationshipswithOwners,agencies,subcontractors,inspectors,suppliers,andinternalstakeholders.
  • ProvidesresponsivecustomerserviceandrepresentstheCompanyprofessionallyinallinteractions.
  • ProactivelycollaborateswiththeEstimatingteamtoensurecontinuitybetweenpre-bideffortsandactiveprojectexecution.
Supervision&Mentorship
  • Routinelysupervisesandmentorsprojectstaff,typicallyoverseeingapproximatelythreeemployees.
  • Providestechnicalguidance,performancefeedback,andprofessionaldevelopmentsupporttojuniorteammembers.
  • Promotesteamwork,accountability,andadherencetoCompanystandardsandexpectations.
