Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• 5–10 years of estimating experience in general civil construction.
• Proven track record of bid success and project profitability.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate bid documents to determine scope and risk for pursuit.
• Oversee quantity take-off and subcontractor quotes.
• Prepare competitive bid documents and winning proposals.
• Support post-bid activities including change orders and cost control.
• Maintain organized bid documents for archival or handoff.

PositionSummary

TheEstimatorisresponsibleforprovidingaccurate,timelyandcomprehensivebidsforprivateandpublic-sectorimprovementprojects.Specifically,therolewillberesponsibleforidentifyingbidopportunities,preparingcompetitivebiddocumentsanddevelopingwinningproposals.Inaddition,theEstimatorwillcontributetothesuccessandprofitabilityofprojectsbyprovidingongoingassistanceduringtheconstructionphase,includingestimateinterpretation,problemresolution,activeinvolvementinthechangeorderprocessandassistanceinoverallaccountmanagement.BecognitiveofyourinfluenceasapositiverolemodeltotheDepartment’slessexperiencedstaffandmentorwhenpossible.

EssentialFunctions

• Thoroughlyevaluatebiddocuments(plans,specifications,soilsreportandrelateddocuments),determiningscopeandbreadthofworktobebothself-performedandsubcontracted.Evaluatechangesinbiddocumentsasnecessarywithrespecttotheimplicationstoscope,costandtheriskprofileofthepursuit.
• Coordinate,overseeandevaluatethequantitytake-offforpursuits,highlightingimportantdetailssuchasaccess,phasing,productionconstraints,magnitudesofscope,etc.
• Attendpre-bidmeetingsandsitevisitstoevaluateprojectconstraintsandtheirimplicationstothedevelopmentofaprofitablecostestimateforthepursuit.
• Identifyandcontacttherequiredsubcontractors,suppliersandserviceproviders,andrequestscopeclarificationsandquotes,ensuringsufficientcoveragewhilemitigatingallknownandpotentialscopegaps.
• Utilizehistoricalcostandproductiondatatodeveloptimelyandaccurateestimates.Identify,analyze,categorize/prioritize,evaluate,communicateandmitigatetherisksassociatedwiththepursuit.
• Tabulatetheestimatedcostanddurationforeachactivitybasedontherequirementsforlabor,equipment,materialsandsubcontractorsofeachactivityensuringthepursuitcanbecarriedoutprofitably.
• Completetheestimate,produceascheduleandotherexecutivelevelsummarydocuments,allowingenoughtimepriortosubmissionofthebid,foradetailedpeer/managementreviewofthepursuit.Ensureallassociatedactionitemshavebeenaddressedpriortofinalizingandsubmittingthebid.
• Oncebidhasbeensubmitted,compileandorganizeallbid-relateddocumentsandpricingbackupinanorderlyfashion,foreitherarchivingorforhandofftoprojectteam,ifsuccessful.

Thispositionoffersasalaryrangeof$125,000to$150,000annually,dependingonexperience.

RequiredEducation,Experience,andTechnicalKnowledge

• CandidatesmusthavethelegalrighttoworkintheUSwithoutemployersponsorship.
• Bachelor’sdegreeinConstructionManagement,CivilEngineering,orrelatedfield(four-yearortechnicalschool)orequivalentexperience.
• 5–10yearsofestimatingexperienceingeneralcivilconstructionpreferred.
• Proventrackrecordofbiddingsuccessandprojectprofitability.
• ExperienceusingHCSSHeavyBid,TakeoffSoftware,HeavyJob,andproficientinMSWord,Excel,andProject.
