Job description

Position Summary

Branch is seeking a highly skilled, team-oriented Project Engineer to join our established and growing company. The Project Engineer oversees all engineering and technical aspects of projects, emphasizing organization and planning to ensure accuracy and quality. This role reports directly to the Project Manager and supports project safety, documentation, plans and specifications, construction methods, scheduling, budgeting, projections, and project closeout.

This is an onsite position located in Wilkesboro, NC.

Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Measure, report, and forecast accurate costs, revenues, and quantities.
  2. Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications thoroughly.
  3. Assist the Pre-Construction Services/Project Manager in defining project budgets and cost codes.
  4. Prepare initial budget adjustments for Project Manager review prior to project start.
  5. Ensure acquisition of permits through appropriate channels as required.
  6. Maintain and update RFI Log, Change Order Log, and Submittal Log.
  7. Maintain and update the Materials Book, including C25s/Certs, etc.
  8. Support quality control and ensure the use of approved materials.
  9. Draft and submit Change Orders and RFIs for Project Manager approval.
  10. Approve subcontractor invoices at the first level for Project Manager's final approval.
Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
  1. Review and submit end-of-month billings.
  2. Develop and communicate effective project plans in cooperation with the superintendent.
  3. Monitor work to ensure proper means and methods are followed and are effective.
  4. Maintain and update the project schedule for review.
  5. Review and develop material tracking lists.
  6. Promote Branch Safety Culture.
  7. Perform pre-punch list walkthroughs with Project Manager and Superintendent.
  8. Enforce contract close-out timelines and coordinate with Subcontractors.
  9. Review cost data for accuracy and assist in generating projection updates.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in engineering/construction with two years of experience in heavy civil NCDOT/large site construction.

Travel

Extensive travel within the North Carolina region.

Physical Demands

The physical demands include talking, hearing, standing, walking, handling, reaching, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 25 pounds as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time role, typically involving 40+ hours per week, with on-call hours for delays, weather, and emergencies.
