We’re seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support the development and delivery of utility-scale energy and power infrastructure projects. Project experience may include renewable energy, substations, transmission, energy storage, and other power industry work.
In this role, you’ll help guide projects from early development and conceptual design through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. You’ll coordinate with project managers, engineering consultants, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable projects on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Support energy infrastructure projects from feasibility and early development through engineering, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
- Coordinate with project management, development, engineering, procurement, operations, utilities, and other stakeholders to define scope, technical requirements, schedules, and deliverables.
- Provide technical oversight of engineering consultants, Engineers of Record (EORs), and contractors to ensure designs meet project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering work across electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, and other relevant disciplines.
- Review designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction documents for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Develop and evaluate engineering scopes of work, consultant proposals, technical bids, and procurement packages.
- Identify opportunities to improve designs, reduce costs, and increase project value while maintaining safety, reliability, and performance.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to resolve technical issues and support execution.
- Monitor engineering schedules, budgets, resources, risks, and deliverables; identify concerns and recommend mitigation plans.
- Support permitting, site development, interconnection, and coordination with utilities and transmission owners, as applicable.
- Coordinate design reviews and documentation from conceptual and preliminary design through detailed and Issued for Construction (IFC) packages.
- Provide project updates, technical recommendations, and progress reports to project management and leadership.
- Support construction and commissioning by resolving engineering issues and coordinating technical changes.
- Ensure work meets applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and project procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Electrical, civil, mechanical, aerospace, chemical, or another relevant discipline will be considered.
- At least 5 years of engineering or project engineering experience; candidates with highly relevant industry experience may also be considered.
- Experience supporting the engineering or execution of utility-scale energy, power, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience coordinating engineering consultants, contractors, or multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of engineering design, technical specifications, construction requirements, and project execution.
- Ability to review engineering drawings and technical documents and provide clear feedback.
- Experience coordinating schedules, budgets, resources, risks, and deliverables.
- Knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards; familiarity with IEEE, NESC, and ASCE standards is valuable for substation work.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and move projects forward in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with utility-scale solar, substations, transmission, distribution, energy storage, wind, combined-cycle generation, or other power infrastructure.
- Experience coordinating EPC contractors and EOR consultants.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience supporting projects through construction, commissioning, and final turnover.
Additional Requirement
- Ability to travel as needed for project sites, engineering reviews, construction activities, and meetings.
