Job description

Position Summary

Branch is seeking a highly skilled, team-oriented Project Engineer to join our established and growing company. The Project Engineer oversees all engineering and technical aspects of projects, focusing on organization and planning to ensure accuracy and quality. This role reports directly to the Project Manager and supports project safety, documentation, plans and specifications, construction methods, scheduling, budgeting, projections, and project closeout.

This is an onsite position located in Wilkesboro, NC.

Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Measure, report, and forecast accurate costs, revenues, and quantities.
  2. Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications thoroughly.
  3. Assist the Pre-Construction Services/Project Manager in defining project budgets and cost codes.
  4. Prepare initial budget adjustments for review prior to project start.
  5. Ensure acquisition of permits through appropriate channels as required.
  6. Maintain and update RFI Log, Change Order Log, and Submittal Log.
  7. Maintain and update Materials Book, including C25s/Certs, etc.
  8. Support quality control and ensure use of approved materials.
  9. Draft and submit Change Orders and RFIs for approval.
  10. Review and approve subcontractor invoices at the first level for PM final approval.
Additional Duties
  1. Review and submit end-of-month billings.
  2. Develop and communicate an effective plan in cooperation with the superintendent.
  3. Monitor work to ensure means and methods are followed and effective.
  4. Maintain and update project schedule for review.
  5. Review or develop material tracking lists.
  6. Promote Branch Safety Culture.
  7. Perform pre-punch list walkthroughs with PM and Superintendent.
  8. Enforce contract close-out timelines and reconcile with subcontractors.
  9. Review cost data for accuracy and assist in generating projection updates.
Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.

Preferred: Master's Degree in engineering/construction and two years of experience in heavy civil NCDOT/large site construction.

Travel

Extensive travel within the North Carolina region.

Physical Demands

The physical demands include frequent talking, hearing, standing, walking, handling, reaching, and occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Employee must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Position Details

This is a full-time role, typically involving 40+ hours per week, with on-call availability for early/late hours due to project needs.
