Job summary

Spencer Ogden is hiring a Project Engineer to support utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System projects in a remote or hybrid role in San Diego, CA. You will lead technical development from early planning through construction and turnover to operations, coordinating with engineering teams, EPCs, and grid interconnection specialists.

Minimum 3 years in project engineering or renewable energy, Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred).

HIRING: Project Engineer | Utility-Scale Solar & BESS

Location: Remote or Hybrid in San Diego, CA

Are you an experienced engineer looking to play a key role in developing and delivering utility-scale renewable energy projects? We're seeking a Project Engineer to support large-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, leading technical development from early-stage planning through construction and final turnover to operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across project development, engineering, EPC contracting, and grid interconnection while helping advance the future of renewable energy.

What You'll Do

• Lead technical due diligence for renewable energy projects throughout the development lifecycle.
• Manage engineering consultants and support EPC contractor selection and contracting.
• Oversee engineering during project implementation, including design reviews, site visits, and coordination with internal teams and external partners.
• Support project economics, financial modeling inputs, and technical due diligence for financial close.
• Coordinate equipment specifications, procurement strategies, and integration of owner-furnished and EPC-provided equipment.
• Support high-voltage equipment procurement and electrical grid interconnection, including utility and ISO coordination.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Electrical Engineering preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in project engineering, design, project development, or renewable energy.
• Ideally 5–10 years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience with utility-scale solar, BESS, EPC contracting, or renewable energy project development is highly desirable.
• Strong technical problem-solving, project coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
