Job summary

Ferma Corporation in Newark, CA is seeking a Project Engineer to support planning and execution of demolition, environmental, site development, and underground utility projects from award through closeout.

This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure projects stay organized, on schedule, within budget, and compliant with contract requirements.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the construction industry preferred.
  • Experience supporting project management, field operations, or engineering teams preferred.
  • Familiarity with demolition, environmental, site development, or heavy civil construction projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of California construction regulations, safety requirements, and industry best practices preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents in the planning, execution, and closeout of assigned projects.
  • Prepare, track, and manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and material approvals.
  • Maintain complete and organized project documentation, including contracts, change orders, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
  • Assist with project startup activities, including contract review, scope alignment, and project setup.
  • Monitor project schedules and coordinate with project teams to identify and address potential delays.
  • Assist with procurement activities and coordinate material deliveries, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Track labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs and maintain project cost logs.
  • Support preparation of monthly billings, cost projections, forecasts, and change order requests.
  • Participate in project startup, progress, coordination, and closeout meetings.
  • Conduct jobsite visits to verify work progress, quality standards, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with project reporting, schedule updates, and production tracking.
  • Coordinate with accounting to support project billing, job cost management, and subcontractor invoicing.
  • Ensure project documentation complies with company standards and client requirements.
  • Assist with punch list completion and project closeout documentation.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Support estimating efforts through quantity takeoffs, field verification, bid support, and historical cost tracking.
  • Participate in operations meetings and support continuous improvement of project processes and procedures.
  • Support company safety initiatives and help ensure compliance with project‑specific safety requirements.

Job Summary

The Project Engineer is a key member of the Operations team, supporting the successful planning and execution of demolition, environmental, site development, and underground utility projects from award through closeout. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure projects remain organized, on schedule, within budget, and compliant with contract requirements.

The Project Engineer serves as a critical link between the field and office, assisting with project documentation, cost tracking, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, procurement, and project controls while gaining hands‑on experience in all phases of construction operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents in the planning, execution, and closeout of assigned projects
  • Prepare, track, and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, and material approvals
  • Maintain complete and organized project documentation, including contracts, change orders, meeting minutes, and correspondence
  • Assist with project startup activities, including contract review, scope alignment, and project setup
  • Monitor project schedules and coordinate with project teams to identify and address potential delays
  • Assist with procurement activities and coordinate material deliveries, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers

  • Familiarity with construction scheduling, project controls, and cost tracking systems preferred
Education and Experience:
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the construction industry preferred

Working Conditions
  • This position is based in our Newark office and is not eligible for remote work
  • Regular travel to project sites throughout Northern California is required
  • Work is performed in both office and construction site environments
  • Requires frequent use of computers, project management software, and standard office equipment
  • May involve walking active construction sites, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment while visiting project sites
