Job summary

VMC Group is seeking a Project Engineer in the United States with an HVAC/mechanical background to manage multiple projects valued at $250K+. You will coordinate across Sales, engineering, operations, and customers to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery per VMC Group standards.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years in engineering/project management. Travel to sites may be required; Salesforce/PM tools experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of engineering/project experience in HVAC/building systems.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC/mechanical systems and specs.
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, customers, and internal teams.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and docs.
  • Proficient with MS Office; Salesforce and PM tools preferred.

  • Oversee multiple large-scale projects, ~$250K+ each.
  • Monitor schedules, budgets, milestones, and customer expectations.

  • Maintain project docs and communications; use PM tools to track progress.
  • Travel periodically to customer or project sites as required.

Job description

Houston, TX; Bloomingdale, NJ or Corona, CA • Sales

The Project Engineer will manage multiple projects simultaneously, with typical project values of $250K+, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements and VMC Group engineering standards. The ideal candidate will have an HVAC or mechanical engineering background, strong project management skills, and the ability to effectively coordinate technical requirements across multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities not limited to:

  • Manage engineering projects from project award through completion, including planning, execution, coordination, and closeout.
  • Collaborate closely with Regional Sales Managers, contractors, customers, Engineering, Operations, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, typically valued at $250K or more.
  • Coordinate approximately 5+ projects annually, ensuring milestones, deliverables, schedules, and customer expectations are met.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, technical documentation, and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure technical solutions meet project specifications and customer needs.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact throughout the project lifecycle and communicate project status, risks, changes, and requirements to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with contractors and customers regarding installation requirements, field conditions, technical questions, and project execution.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop solutions to address technical, scheduling, and execution challenges.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, scope, and deliverables to ensure successful project completion.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including schedules, status updates, technical information, and project correspondence.
  • Utilize Salesforce and project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar platforms to manage project information and activities.
  • Support the preparation and review of technical proposals, project documentation, and customer communications as needed.
  • Participate in project meetings, customer calls, contractor meetings, and internal project reviews.
  • Assist with resolving technical issues and coordinating corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships while ensuring VMC Group's technical and commercial requirements are met.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project execution, processes, and customer experience.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering/project experience, preferably within the HVAC, mechanical, construction, building systems, or related industry.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Experience managing projects from initiation through completion.
  • Experience working with contractors, customers, sales teams, and engineering organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Salesforce and project management platforms such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar tools is preferred.
  • Ability to travel periodically to customer or project sites as required.
