Job summary

LHH seeks a Project Engineer to lead capital projects in a complex manufacturing environment. You will serve as the liaison between operations, engineering, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

The role combines office-based project management with hands-on collaboration on site, requiring proactive problem solving, strong communication, and mentoring of junior staff as part of a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related field.
  • 5-15 years of experience in project engineering or capital project management.
  • Experience in chemical processing, refinery, petrochemical, or similar manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proven success managing projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead capital projects from scope through commissioning and closeout.
  • Develop charters, RFPs, bid evaluations, schedules, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate engineering, construction, maintenance, operations, and external vendors.
  • Manage scope, timelines, costs, and deliverables to achieve objectives.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Review designs, drawings, and specifications for quality and compliance.
  • Support construction activities, commissioning, and handoff to operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Prepare project documentation, progress updates, and stakeholder communications.
  • Mentor and support less-experienced team members.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Job description

We are seeking a results-driven Project Engineer to lead and execute capital projects within a complex manufacturing environment. This individual will serve as a key liaison between operations, engineering, contractors, and business stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who can identify challenges, develop practical solutions, and take ownership of projects from concept through completion. This role offers a balance of office-based project management and hands‑on collaboration within a manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead capital projects from initial scope development through commissioning and project closeout.
  • Develop project charters, requests for proposals (RFPs), bid evaluations, schedules, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate engineering, construction, maintenance, operations, and external vendors throughout project execution.
  • Manage project scope, timelines, costs, and deliverables to achieve business objectives.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Review engineering designs, drawings, and technical specifications for quality and compliance.
  • Support construction activities, commissioning efforts, and handoff to operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve engineering challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare project documentation, progress updates, and stakeholder communications.
  • Mentor and support less‑experienced team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-15 years of experience in project engineering, capital project management, or related engineering roles.
  • Experience in a chemical processing, refinery, petrochemical, or similar manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Proven success managing projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Experience working with contractors, vendors, and engineering firms.
  • Familiarity with CAD/design software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required.
