Capital Projects Engineer | Chemical Manufacturing

Employment Type: Contract-Potentially Full Time

Our client is seeking an experienced Capital Projects Engineer to join their team within an industrial chemical manufacturing environment. This role will lead the execution of capital projects across mechanical, civil, and structural engineering, supporting both continuous and batch processing operations.

A key focus of this position is Mechanical Integrity and Process Safety Management (PSM). The successful candidate will ensure capital projects are designed and executed to meet the highest standards for safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational performance.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead multidisciplinary capital projects from concept and design through construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Manage projects ranging from approximately $50K to $50M.
  • Provide engineering oversight across mechanical, civil, and structural scopes.
  • Apply Mechanical Integrity principles to pressure vessels, piping systems, rotating equipment, and structural components.
  • Ensure engineering designs and installations comply with applicable codes, standards, Mechanical Integrity requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Support compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), 29 CFR 1910.
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and other stakeholders to successfully execute projects.
  • Ensure equipment modifications and installations meet safety, reliability, and performance requirements.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in chemical manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading capital projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong Mechanical Integrity experience involving pressure vessels, piping, rotating equipment, and structural components.
  • Experience working within a chemical plant or process manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of Mechanical Integrity experience in a chemical manufacturing plant environment.
  • Experience with boiler and power generation systems, including steam, electric, and gas systems.
  • PMP certification or formal project management training.
