Job summary

Foster Lawson is seeking a Project Engineer to join a well‑established heavy civil contractor in Massachusetts. You will support project execution on active sites across the state, coordinating with Project Managers, Superintendents and field teams to stay on track from planning through completion.

You have a Civil Engineering/Construction Management background (or equivalent hands-on experience) and 3+ years on heavy infrastructure projects such as rail, bridges, highways, tunnels, and marine

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience on heavy civil infrastructure projects (rail, bridge, highway, tunnel, marine, excavation).
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience).
• Strong working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Familiarity with scheduling and project management software; OSHA requirements and site safety standards.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to work on active job sites across Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day project execution alongside Project Managers and Superintendents on heavy civil sites.
• Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to guide field operations.
• Track project quantities, production rates, labor, equipment, and materials.
• Coordinate submittals, RFIs, and change orders with design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Assist with scheduling, cost tracking, and quality/safety compliance across active work fronts.
• Liaise with owners, engineers, inspectors, and regulatory bodies as required.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and daily progress reporting.

About the Role

Foster Lawson is recruiting a Project Engineer on behalf of a well-established heavy civils contractor based in Massachusetts. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team delivering complex infrastructure projects across the state, working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field operations to keep projects on track from planning through completion.

You’ll be involved in some of the region’s most demanding civil infrastructure work — spanning rail, bridge, highway, tunnel, marine, and sitework/excavation projects — and will play a key role in coordinating the technical, schedule, and quality aspects of construction delivery.
