Job summary

Flight Specialties Components Corp., a HEICO Aerospace subsidiary, invites a Project Engineer to our Highland Heights, Ohio facility to lead electro-mechanical component development. You will manage product development, reverse engineer existing parts, and work with suppliers and internal teams to deliver compliant hardware.

You will review 3-D models in SolidWorks, design circuits/PCBs, and prepare FAA design substantiation packages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence required.
  • Experience with CAD software required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with LABView highly desired.
  • Experience working to commercial aerospace standards is highly desired.
  • Understanding of aircraft and systems is highly desired.
  • At least four years aerospace design or project experience preferred.
  • Hands-on prototype/manufacturing/repair shop experience desired.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • FAA PMA certification process experience is a strong benefit.
  • Flexible in handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and participate in all aspects of product development for assigned components.
  • Reverse engineer existing aircraft components and develop replacements.
  • Use test equipment to analyze and design components.
  • Direct dimensional inspection and material analysis with outside suppliers.
  • Review and revise 3-D models and 2-D drawings in SolidWorks.
  • Oversee circuit and PCB design for end products and test equipment.
  • Determine required Acceptance and Qualification testing.
  • Prepare Test Procedures and test fixtures/equipment.
  • Identify and qualify suppliers; act as liaison with suppliers.
  • Analyze part function for Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Prepare FAA design substantiation packages and coordinate FAA review.
  • Forecast and track project status for management review.
  • Provide technical support to customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Travel 5–15% to visit airline engineering, test facilities, MROs, and FAA offices.

Requirements

Flight Specialties Components Corp. (FSC), a subsidiary of HEICO Aerospace, is currently recruiting for a Project Engineer to develop electro-mechanical components at our facility in Highland Heights, Ohio.

PRIME RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position reports directly to the FSC NPD Engineering Manager
  • Manage and participate in all aspects of product development for assigned components, as detailed below –
  • Analyze existing commercial aircraft components in order to reverse engineer them and develop equivalent or improved replacement parts.
  • Use test equipment such as Force Gages, Light Meters, electronic test equipment, calipers, etc. in the analysis, design and reverse engineering of aircraft components.
  • Direct and manage dimensional inspection and material analysis of assigned components by outside suppliers and support specialists.
  • Review, approve and revise 3-D models and 2-D drawings in Solidworks.
  • Oversee the design of circuits and printed circuit boards for use in end products and internal test equipment
  • Determine required Acceptance and Qualification testing for assigned components.
  • Prepare Test Procedures and oversee development of required test fixtures and test equipment.
  • Research and identify potential suppliers. Support the development and qualification of new suppliers. Act as technical liaison with suppliers to support production of assigned hardware.
  • Analyze part function to prepare Failure Modes and Effects Analysis on assigned components and associated aircraft systems.
  • Prepare FAA design substantiation document packages and coordinate FAA review.
  • Forecast and track Project Status for Management review.
  • Provide Technical Support to customers, suppliers and internal personnel for existing products.
  • Perform other activities as assigned by management

This position may require 5-15% travel to visit airline engineering departments, test facilities, MRO facilities and the Federal Aviation Administration offices, including locations outside the United States.

EDUCATION / PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering required.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence required.
  • Experience with CAD software required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Experience with LABView highly desired.
  • Experience working to commercial aerospace standards is highly desired.
  • Understanding of aircraft, engines and associated systems (avionics, flight controls, bleed air systems, engine accessories, landing gear, interiors, etc…) is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electromechanical devices such as LEDs, Displays, Switches, Proximity Sensors, Pressure and Temperature Sensors, etc. including testing requirements, materials, and drawing requirements is highly desired.
  • At least four years commercial or military aerospace design or project experience with similar products strongly preferred.
  • Experience with engineering simulation and analytical tools desired.
  • Hands‑on prototype, manufacturing or repair shop experience is desired.
  • Successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated effective decision making, organizational and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with the FAA PMA certification process a strong benefit.
  • Must be flexible in handling multiple tasks and have the ability to work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
