Job summary

Hargrove Engineers & Constructors seeks a Project Engineer to coordinate engineering projects in Gonzales, LA, ensuring technical compliance, budget adherence, and on-time delivery. You will lead small capital projects (<$5MM) and supervise design, engineering, and construction resources, including field support and safety oversight.

The ideal candidate has a BS/MS in Engineering, PE or PMP preferred, and 5+ years of plant/industrial project experience with strong communication and teamwork skills. Proficiency in SAP and industry standards is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • Registration as Professional Engineer and/or PMP is highly preferred.
  • Requires 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering and project management.
  • Strong project management and technical skills.
  • Experience with engineering projects in a plant or industrial environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge and application of company standards and project controls tools.
  • Ability to lead a team and deliver on commitments.
  • Understanding of engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project plans and specifications (scope, budget, and schedule).
  • Coordinate project activities and resources.
  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers.
  • Lead assigned capital projects and manage all engineering, design, and construction resources.
  • Develop estimates, funding documents, schedule, and forecasts for plant projects in SAP.
  • Ensure safety reviews and process safety measures are completed.
  • Provide field supervision during project execution.
  • Manage project safety and keep projects on budget and schedule.
  • Ensure operability needs of the customer are met.
  • Understand plant operating environment and quality standards.
  • Conduct safety kickoff meetings and communicate safety goals to contractors.
  • Complete JSA and participate in permit issuance.
  • Lead daily safety meetings with crafts.
  • Obtain TWIC, passport and refinery background checks.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders effectively.

What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Project Engineer coordinates engineering projects, ensuring they meet technical requirements and are completed on time and within budget. In this role, you will lead small capital projects (less than $5MM). Duties will be performed under general supervision in Gonzales, LA.

Primary Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To
  • Develop project plans and specifications (scope, budget, and schedule).
  • Coordinate project activities and resources.
  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers.
  • Lead assigned capital projects (standalone projects and projects within plant outages) and manage all engineering, design, and construction resources
  • Develop estimates, funding documents, schedule, and ongoing forecasts for plant executed projects within SAP
  • Ensure all projects receive adequate process hazard reviews and ORI’s and that all recommendations are completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure inherent process safety is adhered to on all project designs
  • Provide field supervision / support during projects execution
  • Manage Project Safety Maintain projects on budget and schedule
  • Ensure all projects meet the operability needs of the customer
  • Basic understanding of operating plant environment
  • Understands quality standards as outlined by site
  • Conduct Safety Kickoff Meeting with contractors and operations team prior to start of project execution
  • Clearly communicate safety goals and standards to contractors.
  • Complete JSA and participate in the Safe Work Permit issuance process.
  • Lead daily morning safety / toolbox meetings with all crafts.
  • Ensure all contractors on site for project execution have submitted an Emergency Action Plan prior to mobilization
  • Participate in Safety Sampling and Critical Safety Audits during outages
  • Attend and contribute to monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Obtain TWIC, passport and complete refinery background checks
Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.
