Job summary

Ryan Companies US, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our team on a construction project site in Des Moines. The role focuses on learning Ryan processes, procedures, and policies while supporting field and office operations for six months or the project duration.

You will gain hands-on experience with RFIs, shop drawings, quality plans, safety procedures, scheduling, procurement, and estimating while collaborating with the project team to meet milestones and deliver superior outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Previous internship experience in commercial construction.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard estimating, take-off, or scheduling software.
  • Willingness to travel or relocate as needed to support regional projects.
  • Proactive drive to lead selective bid solicitation calls and manage bid lists.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in RFIs and documentation; track approvals and update office and jobsite plans.
  • Monitor and maintain the shop drawing log; coordinate approvals and verify dimensions.
  • Support quality and safety efforts by following project checklists and the PSQP.
  • Coordinate logistics and deliveries; understand site logistics and timelines.
  • Participate in permits and inspections; assist with punch lists and record items.
  • Prepare agendas/minutes for weekly construction meetings; help track milestones.
  • Support procurement and estimating by developing subcontractor bid forms and evaluation spreadsheets.
  • Assist Superintendent and Project Manager with additional assignments as directed.

Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an immediate career opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team! The Project Engineer assists the project team in the completion of designated projects with a focus on learning Ryan processes, procedures and business policies. The position objective is to educate the employee in field and office operations while working from a construction project site for a minimum of six months and preferably for the duration of an entire construction project.

What You Can Expect To Do:
  • RFIs & Documentation: Help generate Requests For Information (RFIs), track approvals, and keep office and jobsite plans updated with RFIs and ASIs.
  • Shop Drawings: Monitor and maintain the shop drawing log and coordinate approvals. Learn project dimensional control requirements while field-verifying dimensions.
  • Quality & Safety: Complete thorough drawing reviews utilizing Ryan checklists. Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in creating and executing the Project Specific Quality Plan (PSQP) and learn Ryan Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Logistics & Deliveries: Assist in coordinating and tracking vendor and subcontractor deliveries while gaining a strong understanding of overall site logistics.
  • Permits & Inspections: Participate in and gain an understanding of the city and jurisdictional permit inspection process. Accompany Ryan personnel and Owners on punch list inspections, record items, and monitor completion.
  • Meetings & Scheduling: Prepare agendas and minutes for weekly construction meetings and take an active role. Participate in preparing, updating, and milestone-tracking the project schedule.
  • Procurement & Estimating: Support project procurement by developing subcontractor RFP bid forms and evaluation spreadsheets. Support the estimating process, learn take-off software, and perform unit cost analyses.
  • Perform additional assignments to support the Superintendent and Project Manager as directed.
