Job summary

Shaw Services Company is seeking a Self Perform Engineer (Concrete) to manage self-perform concrete work on a Front Range project. You will coordinate material delivery, scheduling, and quality control to keep work on time and within budget.

The role requires a four-year degree in Construction Management and at least 2 years with a GC or self-perform/concrete background, plus strong leadership and communication skills. Compensation includes a comprehensive package and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree, preferably in Construction Management.
  • Minimum 2 years experience with a General Contractor, self-perform, or trade contractor background (concrete preferred).
  • Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Superintendent and Subcontractor the delivery, storage, and management of all concrete materials.
  • Assist Superintendent to schedule the work of subcontractors.
  • Assemble shop drawings and deliver submittals for structural coordination meetings and EOR review.
  • Maintain and update a detailed list of tools, equipment, and materials to be used or moved between job sites.

Job Title: Self Perform Engineer (Concrete) Department: SPS Division: Front Range Reports To: Self Perform Manager Classification: Exempt

Job Summary:

Manages and coordinates a segment of the self perform work of a project, including its material management, job site planning, and labor scheduling, in order to complete the work on time, within budget, and to the quality specified. Responsible to protect and promote the interest of Shaw in all matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As directed by the Self Perform Operations Manager and for a specific area of work:

  • Coordinate with Superintendent and Subcontractor the delivery, storage, and management of all concrete materials
  • Track and project required material for delivery; travel from job to job checking quality of work and use of materials
  • Assist Superintendent to schedule the work of subcontractors
  • Assemble shop drawings and deliver submittals for structural coordination meetings and EOR review
  • Assist Superintendent with the project's Shaw 1-2-3 Quality Control program as it pertains to concrete work, specifically: prephase meetings, first day inspections, scheduled inspections
  • Maintain a copy of specifications, submittals and As-Built drawings
  • Measure actual production rates of crews weekly and compare to planned rates
  • Monitor and enforce the comprehensive project safety & security program as defined in the company safety program and in accordance with all applicable safety codes and regulations
  • Supervise/monitor Foreman, general labor, and back-out crews
  • Assist Self Perform Manager to administer RFIs, ASIs, etc.
  • Assist Self Perform Manager with assembling change pricing
  • Assist Self Perform Manager to coordinate with Project Superintendent on Shaw self-performed work, including labor & equipment plan, budget, and code tracking/management
  • Assist Self Perform Manager with getting more labor, equipment, etc. as required
  • Assist Self Perform Manager with detailed material takeoffs
  • Assist Self Perform Manager with plan review and VE
  • Maintain and update a detailed list of tools, equipment, and materials to be used or moved from jobsite to jobsite
  • Perform other duties and take on other responsibilities as required

Other Duties:

  • Participate in Company Training
  • Assist with pre-construction, including estimating and quantification
  • Participate in presentations and assist in development of proposals

Supervises foremen or hourly personnel as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • Four-year college degree, preferably in Construction Management
  • Minimum 2 years experience with a General Contractor, self-perform, or trade contractor background (concrete preferred)

Skills Required:

Thorough knowledge and understanding of general construction practices and techniques for concrete work, construction document reading, construction means, methods and materials, and understanding of current building codes. Knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures. Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs. Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.

Compensation:

  • Pay Range: $75,000-$85,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience
