Job summary

The Beaver Excavating Co. is seeking Project Engineers for our Columbus, OH team. This role supports planning, coordination and execution of heavy civil construction projects, in-office and in the field, with travel to sites as needed.

Primary responsibilities include developing relationships, preparing documents, reviewing plans, and assisting project teams to maintain schedules and quality controls. A strong communication mindset and self-motivation are essential for success.

  • Assists in preparing work orders, schedules, drawings, field measurements, subcontracts and supplier agreements.
  • Attends pre-construction meetings and assists with action items and solutions.
  • Supports Project Manager, Superintendent and Contract Administrator with job documents and materials.
  • Analyzes project layout, sequencing, cost, quantities, and specifications.
  • Ensures document control, quality assurance, and project records are maintained.
  • Monitors site progress to keep work on schedule.
  • Provides support to field personnel.

Job description

As Beaver Excavating continues to grow, we're looking for Project Engineers to join our Columbus team. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of heavy civil construction projects while building valuable experience and developing a long-term career within our organization. Project Engineers assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects and work closely with project teams both in the office and in the field.

While this role is primarily based in our Columbus, OH office, travel to and work from project sites may be required based on project needs.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develops solid working relationships with all project personnel
  • Assists in the preparation of work orders, schedules, drawings, field measurements, subcontracts, and supplier agreements
  • Attends pre-construction meetings; assists with the preparation of action items lists and proposed solutions
  • Provides support to the Project Manager, Superintendent, and Contract Administrator with preparation of job documents and materials
  • Analyzes, processes, and assists with the project layout, construction sequencing, cost analysis, measurement of quantities, and clarification of specifications as necessary
  • Ensures that proper document control, quality assurance documentation, and construction project records are kept in accordance with expectations
  • Assists in monitoring the project site to ensure that the work is progressing on schedule
  • Provides support to field personnel

Knowledge & Skills
  • Able to read and comprehend contract documents and construction plans
  • Solid general math skills with the ability to complete field calculations
  • Proficient in MS Office and construction software
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to deal effectively and tactfully with customers and employees at all levels
  • Able to act in a safe manner always
  • High level of motivation, a ‘self-starter’
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field; equivalent field experience will be considered.
  • 2 years of construction experience with heavy/civil preferred.
Travel Requirements
  • Ability and willingness to travel overnight and for extended periods of time as required by project needs.
