Job summary

Aegis Worldwide is seeking a Project Engineer to lead capital and engineering projects in an industrial manufacturing setting in Columbia, SC. You will guide projects from concept through commissioning, managing scope, budget, schedule, and safety.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, 4+ years in project-related roles, and strong skills in CAD, MS Project, Primavera, and possibly PMP. You will coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead capital and plant improvement projects from planning through commissioning.

• Track costs, schedules, risks, changes, milestones, and deliverables.

Position Summary The Project Engineer will lead capital and engineering projects within an industrial manufacturing environment, overseeing projects from initial concept and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout. This role is responsible for project scope, budget, schedule, technical execution, contractor coordination, and field activities while ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead capital and plant improvement projects from planning through commissioning.
• Develop project scopes, budgets, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans.
• Coordinate engineering design, equipment selection, procurement, construction, and startup activities.
• Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, layouts, specifications, and contractor submittals.
• Manage contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal resources throughout project execution.
• Provide field oversight, conduct inspections, and resolve construction or design issues.
• Coordinate plant shutdowns, outages, tie-ins, and startup activities with Operations and Maintenance.
• Track project costs, schedules, risks, changes, milestones, and deliverables.
• Lead project meetings and provide regular updates to leadership and key stakeholders.
• Support procurement activities, including bid packages, vendor selection, equipment ordering, and expediting.
• Partner with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and other teams to ensure successful project execution.
• Ensure projects comply with applicable codes, plant standards, permitting requirements, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required; Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• 4+ years of project engineering, field engineering, or project management experience within manufacturing, industrial, construction, or related environments.
• Experience managing capital projects, budgets, schedules, contractors, and technical deliverables.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and project schedules.
• Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with CAD and standard project management software.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with industrial utilities such as chillers, boilers, cooling water systems, air compressors, or plant infrastructure.

• Experience managing capital projects within an operating manufacturing facility.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MS Project, Primavera, or similar software.
• PMP certification or formal project management training.
• Knowledge of OSHA requirements and contractor safety management.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Combination of office, manufacturing, and active construction environments.
• Exposure to noise, dust, heat, humidity, chemicals, and operating equipment.
• Ability to walk active job sites and climb stairs, ladders, and elevated platforms.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and access equipment or construction areas.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance.
• Must be able to wear required PPE.
• May require occasional off-hours support during shutdowns, tie-ins, emergencies, or critical project milestones.
