Description
The Project Engineer supports the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of the project. Working closely with the Project Director, Construction Manager, contractors, and the field team, this role helps coordinate project activities, monitor costs and schedules, manage project documentation, track productivity, and ensure project objectives are achieved safely, on time, and within budget. This position is ideal for an engineering professional with construction project experience who is looking to take on increasing responsibility in project execution and management.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Project Planning & Execution
- Support the planning, execution, and closeout of construction and engineering.
- Assist in developing project execution plans, schedules, and work packages.
- Coordinate project activities to ensure alignment with project objectives and milestones.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential schedule impacts.
- Support implementation of corrective actions to maintain project performance.
Construction Coordination
- Coordinate daily activities with the Construction Manager and field personnel.
- Assist in resolving construction issues, conflicts, and technical challenges from the home office.
- Facilitate communication between engineering, procurement, construction, and operations teams.
- Support construction planning, engineering, and commissioning activities.
Cost Management & Project Controls
- Monitor project costs, commitments, and forecasts.
- Assist in preparing project budgets and monitoring expenditures.
- Review contractor invoices, progress payments, and change requests.
- Contribute to monthly project reporting
Schedule Management
- Assist in maintaining project schedules and tracking critical milestones.
- Monitor contractor progress against baseline schedules.
- Identify schedule risks and potential delays.
- Support recovery planning and schedule mitigation efforts.
- Participate in weekly planning and project review meetings.
Contract Administration
- Assist with contract implementation and contractor management activities.
- Review and process requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and change orders.
- Maintain project correspondence and contract documentation.
- Track contract deliverables and contractor performance.
- Support procurement and vendor coordination activities.
Engineering & Technical Support
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Coordinate design changes and document revisions.
- Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved designs.
- Assist with constructability reviews and technical evaluations.
- Support engineering and construction interface management.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote and support a strong safety culture on all projects.
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and site requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and incident reviews.
- Monitor quality assurance and quality control requirements.
- Verify compliance with applicable regulations, permits, and project standards.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate project records and document control processes.
- Prepare project status reports, presentations, and performance metrics.
- Track project action items, decisions, and risk registers.
- Support project audits and management reviews.
- Coordinate project closeout documentation and turnover packages.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting construction, industrial, mining, or energy capital projects.
- Experience working in active project environments and coordinating contractor activities.
- Experience with project scheduling, cost tracking, project reporting, and document management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Experience supporting large-scale industrial, mining or infrastructure capital construction projects.
- Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar project scheduling software.
- Experience with contract administration and contractor management.
- Familiarity with commissioning and startup activities.
