Job summary

West End Workforce is seeking a Project Director / VP to lead the hyperscale data center campus in Mobile County, AL. You will own the site schedule, budget, client relationships and delivery, with up to 1,000 on-site workers at peak and a campus footprint around 650 acres.

Initial building targeted for 2027, with autonomy to shape the team and delivery approach. This is a boots-on-the-ground role requiring deep data center expertise, fast decision-making, and the ability to operate in a lean,

Qualifications

• Create clarity where processes may not yet exist; escalate with recommendations.
• Make difficult calls and maintain discipline in a fast-moving environment.

Employment: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Compensation: $250,000–$375,000 USD base + bonus

The Opportunity

This is not a role where you inherit a finished playbook.

You will be the senior-most leader on the ground for the development of a major new hyperscale data center campus in Mobile County, Alabama — and you will have the opportunity to shape how the site is built, how the team operates, and how the project is ultimately delivered.

The campus sits on approximately 650 acres, with an initial 95-acre phase and the first building targeted for 2027. At peak construction, the program is expected to support roughly 1,000 workers on site.

As the Project Director / VP, you will own the site. Schedule. Budget. Contractor performance. Client relationships. Team leadership. Delivery.

This is a high-accountability role for someone who knows the data center world, understands what exceptional execution looks like, and genuinely enjoys building something from the ground up.

The company itself is an entrepreneurial, well-capitalized data center developer with an ambitious pipeline and a deliberately lean delivery organization. That means you will have access to senior leadership, the ability to influence decisions quickly, and the freedom to build the site organization around what the project actually needs.

What You'll Own

You will have full accountability for delivery of the campus from early site mobilization through ready-for-service across each data hall, including:

• Owning schedule, budget, quality, safety and overall project delivery.


• Leading the day-to-day relationship with the general contractor, including schedule challenge, change management and accountability against key milestones.


• Serving as the senior site representative with the End Client, including milestone verification, turnover sequencing and the path through commissioning to RFS.


• Coordinating closely with design teams and the owner-furnished equipment program, where procurement and installation responsibilities must stay tightly aligned.


• Driving early-stage greenfield execution, including site access, earthworks, environmental mitigation and infrastructure sequencing.


• Building, hiring and leading the site-based project organization as the program grows.


• Creating clarity in an environment where every process may not yet exist.


• Knowing when to escalation, what leadership needs to know and — importantly — bringing a recommendation with the problem.


• Making the difficult call when required. This role needs someone comfortable saying no when no is the right answer.

What We're Looking For

At this level, significant data center delivery experience is required.

There is no lengthy ramp-up period, and this is not a role where adjacent large-scale construction experience alone will translate. Data centers have their own language, pace, turnover structure, commissioning sequence and relationship between developer, contractor and End Client.

You should also bring:

• A demonstrated track record delivering large, complex data center projects with meaningful accountability for the overall outcome.


• Experience owning major budgets, schedules, contracts, contractor performance and delivery milestones.


• Exposure to both the general contractor side and the owner/developer or consulting side of the industry.


• Ideally, several formative years within a GC environment learning the mechanics of project execution — budgets, schedules, contracts, procurement, payment applications and field delivery — followed by progression into an owner, developer or consultancy role.


• Confidence working directly with senior clients, contractors, consultants and executive leadership.


• The ability to operate successfully in an entrepreneurial organization where structure is still being built.


• A genuine willingness to be present on site five days per week.

This is a boots-on-the-ground leadership role. Fly-in/fly-out arrangements are not being considered.

• Delivered multi-phase or multi-tenant data center campuses with independent turnover milestones across multiple data halls.


• Led greenfield campus development involving environmental permitting, mitigation and construction happening concurrently.


• Built and retained high-performing site teams in competitive labor markets.


• Worked in high-growth developer environments where decisions move quickly and leaders are expected to operate independently.


• Existing ties to Alabama or the Gulf Coast — or a strong willingness to relocate to Mobile County.
