Job summary

NextEra Energy Resources seeks a Project Director, Gas-Fired Generation Development, to lead utility-scale gas-fired projects across the United States. The role guides development from site identification through permitting, commercial structuring, and construction readiness, with 50%+ travel and base in Florida.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead utility-scale power generation development projects from early-stage development through execution.
  • Manage project strategy, schedules, budgets, risks, and key development milestones.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, construction, environmental, legal, real estate, transmission, fuel supply, finance, and commercial teams.
  • Lead site control, permitting, interconnection, fuel supply, water supply, and local stakeholder engagement.
  • Support commercial opportunities including tolling agreements, power purchase agreements, and capacity sales.
  • Prepare project updates, investment recommendations, and risk assessments for senior leadership.
  • Manage all aspects of the day-to-day transaction process to ensure timely completion and cost effectiveness.
  • Lead and coordinate key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities, and financial negotiations.
  • Coordinate due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects.
  • Act as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection.
  • Construct contractual arrangements for project development and negotiate agreements with consultants and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster external relationships with customers, third parties and members of the community.
  • Identify opportunities and negotiate power sales contracts.

Position Specific Description

This Project Director, Gas-Fired Generation Development will lead the development and execution of utility‑scale gas‑fired power generation projects across the United States. The role is responsible for advancing projects from site identification through development, permitting, commercial structuring, construction readiness, and execution. The position will be based at NextEra Energy’s headquarters in Juno Beach, Florida, and requires 50%+ travel.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience developing thermal generation projects, including combined‑cycle, simple‑cycle, or peaking facilities.
  • Familiarity with U.S. power markets, interconnection processes, permitting, and construction scheduling for project delivery.
  • Experience working with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, local governments, landowners, and regulatory agencies.

Job Overview

The job is responsible for resource allocation, schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project or transaction is completed in the most cost‑effective and competitive manner.
