Job summary

EDP Renewables is seeking a Project Development Lead to oversee utility-scale wind and solar project development from identification to construction. You will lead permitting efforts, secure land rights, and coordinate with regulators and utilities to advance project milestones.

Responsibilities include environmental studies, interconnection planning, budgeting, and financial analysis. Travel up to 50% and collaboration across Legal, Engineering, Finance, and Energy Assessment teams are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible project management experience in energy.
  • Strong communication and analytical problem-solving skills; travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain land surface rights to design, permit, construct, operate, and maintain wind and solar projects.
  • Oversee preparation of proposals submitted to utilities.
  • Manage local, state, and federal permitting for utility-scale wind/solar.
  • Identify prospective projects with suitable wind resource and transmission access.
  • Build relationships with regulators, utilities, and community leaders to support development.
  • Support financial analysis, modeling, and project budgets; participate in interconnection.
  • Negotiate interconnection agreements and Power Purchase Agreements as needed.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Engineering, Construction, Finance, and Energy Assessment teams.
  • Provide regular pipeline and project status reports to management.

Role Overview:

The Project Development Lead is responsible for the development of utility-scale renewable energy-powered (wind and solar) generation projects from the project identification stage through financial closing and start of construction.

Main responsibilities:
  • Responsible for local state, federal, and regional permitting of utility-scale wind farms and solar parks
  • Oversee the preparation of proposals that are submitted to utilities
  • Obtain land surface rights to design, permit, construct, operate, and maintain wind and solar power projects
  • Identify prospective projects with suitable wind resource, electric transmission access, and site characteristics
  • Establish and manage relationships with stakeholders, including elected officials, regulators, utilities, RTOs, and community leaders, to support project development
  • Participate in policy outreach efforts to government officials regarding wind industry issues
  • Monitor Generation Interconnection studies performed by transmission providers and third parties
  • Manage the environmental study and permitting process
  • Support the financial analysis and modeling of the project
  • Manage project-level expenditures and invoice processing
  • Develop project budgets
  • Particípate in interconnection agreement negotiations
  • Work with internal resources, such as the Legal, Engineering, Construction, Finance, Investment Analysis and Energy Assessment teams
  • Provide reports to management by producing regular and frequent pipeline updates, project status updates, and other reporting documents
  • Research energy market and competition on an ongoing basis
  • Communicate information continuously and effectively to cross-functional team
  • Negotiate and establish local agreements that address tax abatement, Road Use and Decommissioning
  • Participate in Power Purchase Agreement negotiations
  • Additional duties as required

What are we looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible project management experience in energy or a related industry
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products preferred.
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred
Travel:

Intermittent, up to 50%

Physical demands & working conditions:

  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds

  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
