Project Coordinator – NIH‑Funded Prevention Research
Job Summary: The Project Coordinator will work on three NIH‑funded studies based at DPS, Mission Hall, 550 16th Street, San Francisco.
Projects:
- Project 1: “Adapting an effective intervention for enhancing engagement in HIV care to meet the needs of key populations in India.” This 3‑year study seeks to address barriers to engagement in care by adapting and pilot testing a culturally appropriate, comprehensive wellness program that incorporates peer navigation to improve engagement in HIV care among men who have sex with men and transgender women in India.
- Project 2: “A combined motivational interviewing and behavioral couples therapy intervention to reduce intimate partner violence and alcohol use in South India.” In this 5‑year project, we conduct a randomized controlled trial to test a combination of motivational interviewing and behavioral couples therapy to reduce alcohol abuse and IPV, and to assess the mechanisms of change via quantitative and qualitative data.
- Project 3: “Secondary Cervical Cancer Prevention of Vulnerable Women with HPV and HIV Co‑infection in India.” The ASHA‑Health HPV intervention builds on prior successful collaboration to improve nutritional status, HPV testing and engagement in care among women living with HIV in rural Karnataka.
Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigators and the study statistician to assist in creating and monitoring the study protocols and quality‑control procedures, develop study measures, interpret qualitative and quantitative data, conduct literature reviews, prepare human‑subjects applications for the Institutional Review Board, monitor financial performance and establish subcontracts, and assist in dissemination activities such as manuscript development, posters and conference presentations.
NOTE: This is a 50% part‑time Career role.

Division of Prevention Science
The Division of Prevention Science is a leading force in prevention research innovation. It is the administrative home of the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies and the Prevention Research Center, and it focuses on risk behavior and reduction, epidemiology, HIV testing and training for providers. The Division employs approximately 35 academics and 45 non‑academic staff from diverse disciplines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area and at least one year of relevant experience or equivalent training.
- Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
- Sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
- Strong analytical ability, research and synthesis of large data sets with attention to detail.
- Proficient multitasking under demanding timeframes.
- Working knowledge of common organizational‑ or research‑specific computer applications.
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health, social sciences or related field, and at least one year of subsequent professional experience.
- Experience conducting behavioral research, including interventions.
- Familiarity with Asian (preferably Indian) cultures and sensitivity to cross‑cultural issues and sexual minority populations.
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
