As part of the City's Cycling and Micromobility Network Expansion Program, Traffic Control & Engineering is seeking a City Planner Level III to support the planning, development, and implementation of projects that expand and improve New York City's protected bike lane and micromobility network. The selected candidate will manage complex transportation planning projects, conduct research and data analysis, evaluate corridor and neighborhood-level improvements, and develop planning recommendations that advance the City's Streets Plan goals. Responsibilities include coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, preparing technical reports, presentations, and planning documents, identifying and evaluating transportation policies and design alternatives, supporting the implementation of protected bike lane and micromobility initiatives, and supervising subordinate staff as required. The candidate will also develop and coordinate work programs, oversee data collection and analysis efforts, and provide technical guidance on transportation planning initiatives and policy development. The candidate will be expected to lead collaboratively and inclusively, seeking to cultivate continued professional development, develop a strong team, and to effectively communicate through verbal and written forms with all stakeholders. Traffic Control & Engineering is responsible for administration, engineering and operations related to the installation, manufacturing, maintenance and removal of signs, flexible bollards, moveable barriers, in-house traffic sign production and other traffic control devices. The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers, sign designers, planners, inspectors, IT experts, analysts and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.
