Job summary

Aquent Talent is partnering with a leading energy and utility organization in the Detroit area to identify a meticulous project scheduler. You will translate complex plans into detailed schedules, manage CPM logic, and optimize resources for critical timelines.

The role requires 3+ years in energy/utility scheduling, strong Primavera P6 skills, and the ability to collaborate across functional teams while maintaining schedule integrity in a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of scheduling experience in energy/utility environments.
  • Experience with CPM scheduling, WBS, and resource loading using Primavera P6.
  • Strong ability to develop master and detail schedules with milestones and cost/resource linking.
  • Proven ability to communicate schedules and analyses to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, and update estimates and integrated project schedules.
  • Perform time impact analysis, delay analysis, and schedule updates.
  • Ensure credibility and accuracy of estimates and schedules.
  • Prepare schedule progress reports, trend charts, and forecasts.
  • Identify changes affecting the critical path and develop recovery plans.
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating/scheduling processes.

Industry Experience

Minimum 3+ years of direct experience working at an Energy or Utility company (mandatory).

Technical Focus

Hands-on scheduling experience with Electrical infrastructure / Power systems (e.g., substations, transmission & distribution, power plants).

Software Proficiency

2+ years of hands-on experience using Primavera P6 (building CPM logic schedules, WBS, resource loading).

Location & Work Schedule

Must be local to the Metropolitan Detroit, MI area (or willing to commute at own expense) for a Hybrid schedule. No relocation.

Work Authorization

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder preferred; no visa sponsorship or C2C available).

What You’ll Do
  • Support project management teams by developing, monitoring, and updating estimates and integrated project plans and schedules to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Develop and provide analysis of project estimates or schedules, including CPM software implementation, time impact and delay analysis, and review of periodic schedule updates.
  • Ensure the credibility of information contained within estimates and schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of project time and/or cost claims.
  • Develop and record project historical estimate/schedule information and lessons learned.
  • Apply methodologies, techniques, tools, software, standards, and guidelines for estimating and/or planning/scheduling, demonstrating knowledge in the application of estimating/scheduling software.
  • Ensure that required project estimating and/or planning/scheduling controls are appropriately implemented and maintained.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of the estimating/scheduling organization through benchmarking and maintaining affiliations with industry organizations.
  • Develop master and detail schedules, including major milestones, detailed Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), assignment of costs, labor, and equipment to activities, and resource leveling.
  • Monitor and update schedule progress toward achieving the desired project completion date, informing the management team of changes to schedule outcomes.
  • Prepare and provide schedule progress reports, trending charts, schedule analysis, and forecast reports for all significant project activities.
  • Analyze the effects on critical path activities, identify project changes that affect the schedule, and develop recovery schedules and alternate courses of action.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business, Business Administration or a related field & 3+ years of job-relevant experience; OR Associate degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business, Accounting, Math, or related field & 5+ years of job-relevant experience; OR High School or GED & 7+ years of job-relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience at an energy/utility company.
  • 2+ years of experience working with Primavera, preferably P6.
  • Knowledge in design scheduling, construction scheduling, program scheduling, and cost & resource loading, including developing detailed WBS, milestones, activity definition, logical sequences, durations, activity dependencies and interdependencies, and activity contingencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally & in writing) with individuals at all levels, both inside and outside the organization.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate cross‑functional work groups and projects, yielding optimal outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of financial & economic analysis, project & risk management.
Standout Qualifications
  • Understanding of schedule models and methods, schedule quality analysis, schedule strategy, schedule integration techniques, Monte Carlo Analysis, and schedule performance analysis techniques.
