Project Controls Specialist (Scheduler) – PMO

Location: Greater Detroit, MI area

Requirement: Utility industry experience required (Electrical background with an Energy Company)

Sirius Staffing is seeking a Project Controls Specialist with dedicated "Scheduler" expertise to support project management office (PMO) initiatives for a utility client. This individual contributor role supports project management teams by developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed as efficiently as possible.

The Scheduler applies established methods, techniques, standards, processes, procedures, guidelines, and templates to manage, develop, and control project schedules. Assignments are given as expected results within established operating policies; the incumbent has discretion to select among alternative approaches, and decisions may involve changes to normal work processes.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supports project teams and scheduling personnel in developing the project plan and translating it into the project schedule.
  • Develops and provides schedule analysis, including CPM software implementation, time impact and delay analysis, and review of periodic schedule updates, as applicable.
  • Ensures the credibility of information contained in the schedule.
  • Assists with preparation of project time and/or cost claims.
  • Develops and records project historical schedule information and lessons learned.
  • Applies scheduling/planning methodologies, techniques, tools, software, standards, and guidelines; knowledgeable in scheduling software applications.
  • Ensures required project scheduling controls are appropriately implemented and maintained.
  • Participates in continuous improvement of the scheduling organization through benchmarking and involvement with industry scheduling organizations and local/national chapters.
Scheduling-Specific Duties
  • Develops master and detail schedules, including major milestones, detailed work breakdown structure (WBS), assignment of costs, labor, and equipment to activities, and resource leveling.
  • Monitors and updates schedule progress toward the desired project completion date and informs the management team of changes to schedule outcomes.
  • Prepares and delivers schedule progress reports, trending charts, and schedule analysis, and reports forecasts for significant project activities.
  • Analyzes effects on critical path activities, identifies schedule-impacting changes, and develops recovery schedules and alternate courses of action.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This role has a dual-track base requirement; candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business, Business Administration, or a related field, plus 3+ years of job-relevant experience.
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Accounting, Math, or a related field, plus 5+ years of job-relevant experience.
  • High School diploma or GED, plus 7+ years of job-relevant experience.
  • Must be eligible to work for any US employer without sponsorship now and/or in the future.
  • Electrical experience within an Energy company
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience working with Primavera scheduling software, preferably P6.
  • 2+ years of experience in construction estimating on large projects
Other Requirements
  • May require the physical ability to work in a power plant environment, including climbing stairs and working in hot, confined spaces.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the organization.
  • Written and verbal communication and advocacy skills sufficient to present project results and research and engage in persuasive interactions with all levels of the business unit.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills sufficient to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate cross-functional work groups and projects to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of financial and economic analysis, project management, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of design scheduling, construction scheduling, program scheduling, and cost and resource loading, including developing detailed WBS, milestones, activity definitions, logical sequencing, durations, activity dependencies/interdependencies, and activity contingencies.
  • Understanding of schedule models and methods, schedule quality analysis, schedule strategy, schedule integration techniques, Monte Carlo analysis, and schedule performance analysis techniques.
