Johnson Service Group seeks an experienced Project Control Specialist for a 12-month contract in Chattanooga, TN, onsite.   • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Project Management, Construction Management, or related field + 3+ years of related project controls experience.
  • Associate’s degree in a related discipline + 3+ years of related experience.
  • High School Diploma / GED + 5+ years of direct project controls experience.

Responsibilities

  • Track project progress, KPIs, schedule variances, and scope changes.
  • Analyze cost and schedule trends against baselines; deliver actionable recommendations to leadership to optimize project delivery.
  • Execute standard industry methods for project performance monitoring, trend assessment, scheduling, and cost estimating.
  • Resource-load schedules and integrate cost/schedule data into enterprise project management software.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and distribute comprehensive progress, financial, and risk reports.
  • Manage monthly financial submittals, including budget forecasting, accruals, and journal vouchers.
  • Partner with Fixed Assets Accounting to accurately classify project work orders.
  • Assist with portfolio business planning, budget development, seasonal forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Document project scope changes, forecast cost/schedule impacts, and facilitate change request and lessons-learned processes.
  • Support contract administration, including purchase agreements, expenditure tracking, and invoice alignments.
  • Provide direct field support at project sites, serving as a key liaison between engineering, plant personnel, project managers, and contractors.
  • Assist with project initiation, funding approval packages, and formal project closure.

Position Overview

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is seeking an experienced Project Control Specialist for a 12-month contract opportunity supporting the largest public energy provider in the United States. In this role, you will work independently to drive cost engineering, scheduling, trend analysis, and performance tracking across high-visibility capital energy projects. You will interface cross-functionally with plant operations, engineering, finance, and external contractors to ensure project milestones, budgets, and reporting standards are consistently met.

Position Title: Project Control Specialist

Location: Chattanooga, TN (100% Onsite)

Pay Rate: Up to $60.00 / hour (W2)

Contract Duration: 12 Months (Proposed: 10/26/2026 – 10/22/2027)

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Project Management, Construction Management, or related field + 3+ years of related project controls experience.
  • Option 2: Associate’s degree in a related discipline + 3+ years of related experience.
  • Option 3: High School Diploma / GED + 5+ years of direct project controls experience.
Technical Skills & Expertise
  • Work Management Systems: Hands-on proficiency with tools such as Primavera (P6), Maximo, PowerPlan, or C55, alongside advanced MS Office skills.
  • Core Methodologies: Deep understanding of cost engineering, scheduling techniques, Earned Value Management (EVM), economic analysis, and risk management.
  • Industry Knowledge: Prior experience with utility/energy sector business planning, financial governance, and standard performance procedures (TVA/utility background preferred).
  • Certifications (Preferred): PMI (PMP/CAPM) or AACE certification is a plus.

If applicable, must be able and willing to assume “on call” rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability depending on demands. When necessary, must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by procedures during peak periods. Likewise, must be able and willing to travel to plant/field locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location.
