Job summary

Johnson Service Group in Atlanta, GA is seeking a Senior Cost Controls Specialist/Cost Manager to bring clarity to project financials, track budgets, and improve forecast accuracy.

You'll partner with project managers, discipline leads, and vendors to ensure costs are recorded correctly, risks visible early, and projects stay financially healthy from planning through closeout.

Hybrid work arrangement; local to Atlanta preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience tracking and reporting project costs.
• Knowledge of accruals, forecasts, and cost drivers.
• Experience coordinating cost forecasting reviews.
• Experience with procurement invoicing and contract compliance.

JSG is seeking a Senior Cost Controls Specialist/Cost Manager for our client in Atlanta, GA. In this role, you’ll bring clarity and control to project financials—tracking performance against budget, strengthening forecast accuracy, and helping project teams make timely, informed decisions. You’ll be a key partner to project managers, discipline leads, and vendors, ensuring costs are recorded correctly, risks are visible early, and projects stay financially healthy from planning through closeout. Hybrid, must be local to Atlanta GA.

Required Skills

• Proven ability to track and analyze project costs , including budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals, and forecasts
• Experience preparing and managing monthly accruals , ensuring accurate recording and coordination with project teams and vendors
• Ability to develop monthly forecasts and deliver clear variance explanations , including cost drivers, trends, risks, and corrective actions
• Strong collaboration skills to coordinate forecasting reviews and validate remaining work, commitments, and assumptions
• Hands-on experience creating and managing purchase requisitions and purchase orders , monitoring commitments, and validating invoices for accuracy and contract compliance
• Experience supporting change orders and funding requests (evaluation and processing)
• Ability to support capital project closeout , including final cost reporting, reconciliation of commitments, and assisting with asset placement into service
• Intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency
• Clear written and verbal communication skills

• Experience supporting energy sector projects
• Exposure to risk management and project controls environments

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years of experience in project controls and/or cost management
