Job summary

Johnson Service Group (JSG) seeks an IT Operations Engineer - Data Platform Administrator for a 12‑month onsite contract in Chattanooga, TN. U.S. citizenship is required and residency must be local or regional.

Hourly rate up to $68.50 on a W2 basis. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of relevant experience, strong platform administration, cloud and security expertise, and a track record in automation, monitoring, and vendor management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, engineering, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in IT operations, platform administration, or related roles.
• Strong expertise across middleware, cloud hosting (VMware, AWS, Azure), and security configurations.
• Experience with change management, automation, monitoring, and vendor coordination.
• Willingness to travel to multiple locations and work onsite in Chattanooga.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical expert in platform operations engineering and provide authoritative design support.
• Analyze component performance, troubleshoot, and determine capacity improvements.
• Lead root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and long-term investment planning for IT services.
• Ensure infrastructure complies with configurations, patches, and approved designs.
• Act as change management coordinator to minimize service impact and drive automation.
• Provide Tier 3 IT support 24x7, including on-call duties and vendor coordination.
• Mentor A and B levels on complex infrastructure issues across teams.
• Collaborate with engineering, analytics, cybersecurity, and business units.
• Travel to various locations as required by project needs.

Job Description

• Serves as the company’s technical expert in platform operations engineering and provides daily authoritative advice in support of the engineering design process.
• Works with peers to analyze the performance of components and systems to troubleshoot, evaluate performance, and determine capacity.
• Uses root cause analysis, corrective actions, tactical planning, and strategic planning to lead and own areas including correcting problems, improving response times/methods, and leading long‑term investment plans required to provide sufficient support for IT services to the business.
• Acts as coordinator to ensure that infrastructure stays in compliance with configurations, patches, and approved designs.
• Active participant, leader, and owner in the change management process to properly execute change with minimum impact to the services provided.
• Actively engaged in improving and automating change processes.
• Provide tier 3 expert support to IT peers as needed to properly support the IT infrastructure on a 24x7 basis, including on‑call duties, shift work, and emergency support, vendor coordination, and business coordination.
• Requirements include travel to various locations away from the primary work site.
• Expert resource for a broad subject area of technology.
• Ability to mentor A and B levels on complex issues impacting the infrastructure and the company’s business processes.
• Expert knowledge of middleware platforms such as but not limited to web application servers like IIS, WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat, Apache; business intelligence like Cognos, Tableau, OBIEE; integration like TIBCO, SSAS, SSRS, SSIS, Informatica; mobile computing platforms including SOA and security configuration and management of those platforms; first and third‑party cloud hosting solutions like VMware, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure.
• In‑depth knowledge and understanding of a broad range of management, compute, and networking technologies.
• Advanced knowledge of Windows, VMware, and Unix‑based operating systems.

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, or a related field of study; or equivalent education, training & experience.
