Job summary

Apex Companies is seeking a Project Civil Engineer to support land development, geotechnical, and municipal/residual waste projects in Somerset or Greensburg, PA. You will work with senior professionals in a collaborative setting emphasizing mentorship, technical growth, and long-term career development.

Responsibilities include concept and detailed design, geotechnical coordination, permitting support, and cross-functional collaboration to advance projects from design to construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.
• 2+ years of relevant experience in land development, geotechnical, residual waste or related civil engineering projects.
• Experience with PADEP permitting processes and coordination is preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; HydroCAD and HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS preferred.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Commitment to safety and understanding of safe work practices.
• Sponsorship not available now or in the future.

• Prepare and review plans, specifications, calculations, costs, and reports.
• Coordinate scheduling, budgeting, and project task management.
• Track progress and ensure timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Assist with permits and regulatory approvals with local, state, and federal agencies.
• Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams from design through construction.
• Participate in client, contractor, and regulatory meetings; document decisions and actions.

Project Civil Engineer – Somerset or Greensburg, PA

This role offers the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience supporting a diverse portfolio of land development, geotechnical, and municipal/residual waste projects. You will work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment that emphasizes mentorship, technical development, and long‑term career growth.

Your Responsibilities

• Perform both conceptual and detailed civil engineering design, including site layout, grading, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utility design.
• Support geotechnical investigations, including field coordination, soil/rock data review, and interpretation of subsurface conditions.
• Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports, recommendations, and design considerations for foundations, slopes and earthwork.
• Support design and permitting efforts for municipal and residual waste facilities, including landfills, transfer stations, and related infrastructure.
• Prepare and review engineering plans, technical specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and reports.
• Support project execution by assisting with scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of project tasks and resources.
• Track project progress and manage deliverables to ensure adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Assist with permitting and approvals, coordinating with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to advance projects from design through construction.
• Participate in client, contractor, and regulatory meetings; document key decisions and follow up on action items.
• Contribute to proposal development, scope definition, and client presentations.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including budgets, schedules, and progress reporting within internal systems.
• Actively pursue professional development and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For
