Job summary

Apex Companies, LLC invites a Civil Engineer to join our Somerset or Greensburg, PA team. You will work on land development projects, collaborating with experienced mentors to deliver designs from concept through construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• EIT is required; PE license preferred or on track.
• 5+ years of experience with site design and land development.
• PADEP permitting experience is preferred.
• Proficient in Civil 3D and MS Office; HydroCAD or similar stormwater modeling software preferred; HEC‑RAS a plus.
• Strong understanding of grading, drainage, and local permitting processes.
• Excellent technical communication skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to safety and safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed civil engineering design for land development projects, including site layout, grading, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utility design.
• Support site feasibility studies, due diligence, and zoning/code compliance reviews.
• Prepare and review design plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, calculations, and engineering reports.
• Assist with permitting and approvals, coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies and responding to agency comments.
• Collaborate with project managers, planners, and survey teams to move projects from concept to construction.
• Track project progress, manage deliverables, and ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
• Participate in client, contractor, and municipal meetings, documenting decisions and follow‑ups.
• Provide support during construction, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and site visits as needed.
• Contribute to proposal development, scope definition, and client presentations.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, budgets, and progress tracking in internal systems.
• Actively pursue professional development opportunities and advancement within land development engineering.

We're seeking a Civil Engineer to be based in Somerset or Greensburg, PA. In this role, you will gain hands‑on experience supporting a diverse portfolio of land development projects, including private sector and municipal development. You'll collaborate with experienced professionals who are committed to mentorship and fostering long‑term career growth within a highly collaborative team environment.

Your Responsibilities as a Civil Engineer:

• Perform detailed civil engineering design for land development projects, including site layout, grading, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utility design
• Support site feasibility studies, due diligence, and zoning/code compliance reviews for a variety of development projects
• Prepare and review design plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, calculations, and engineering reports
• Assist with permitting and approvals, coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies and responding to agency comments
• Collaborate with project managers, planners, and survey teams to ensure projects move efficiently from concept through construction
• Track project progress, manage deliverables, and ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• EIT required, PE preferred or on track
• 5+ years of experience, with exposure to site design and land development projects
• Experience with PADEP permitting processes and coordination is preferred.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and MS Office; HydroCAD or similar stormwater modeling software preferred; HEC‑RAS experience is a plus
• Strong understanding of grading, drainage, and local permitting processes
• Excellent technical communication skills and attention to detail
• Commitment to safety and a strong understanding of safe work practices
