Job summary

CIMCO Refrigeration Inc. is seeking a Project Buyer (Construction & Mechanical) to source and purchase materials, equipment, and subcontracted services for multiple projects. You will partner with Project Managers, Engineering, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery within budget and spec.

The role requires strong procurement knowledge in construction and mechanical systems, effective supplier management, and the ability to balance cost, quality, and schedule across concurrent projects.

Qualifications

• 5 years of purchasing experience on construction projects.
• Technical or engineering background or capital project exposure.
• Experience sourcing materials and contractor services.
• Excel skills including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
• ERP experience purchasing materials for projects (SAP).
• Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
• Quick learner with the ability to ask clarifying questions.

Responsibilities

• Source materials and services required for a construction project.
• Set up new suppliers and ensure CIMCO standards compliance.
• Create AIA contracts, documenting CIMCO requirements.
• Write, issue and seek approval on subcontracts before POs.
• Solicit RFQs from vendors to meet project schedules.
• Confirm prices and lead times on quotes at booking.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Sales and PM to align quotes with timeline.
• Receive packing slips against POs for site deliveries and 3-way matching.
• Collaborate with Accounts Payable to approve invoices for payment.
• Ensure timely payment of vendor invoices.
• Attend Kick Off and Project Status meetings.
• Review RFQ and quotes for compliance with terms.
• Manage large volume of POs and multitask.

Project Buyer (Construction & Mechanical)

The Project Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials, equipment, and subcontracted services for construction and mechanical projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Engineering, and suppliers to ensure materials are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with project requirements. Experience with construction, mechanical systems, and procurement is preferred.

The Project Buyer plays a critical role in ensuring project execution runs smoothly by coordinating all procurement activities from initial planning through final delivery. This position requires strong technical understanding, proactive supplier management, and the ability to balance cost, quality, and schedule requirements across multiple concurrent projects.

Responsibilities

• Sourcing: materials and services required for a construction project
• Set up new suppliers and ensure compliance with CIMCO standards
• Create AIA contracts, ensuring our requirements are accurately documented
• Write, Issue and seek approval on subcontracts before issuing Purchase Orders
• Solicit RFQ’s from vendors for material and services to meet the project schedule
• Confirm prices/ lead times on quotes received at time of booking
• Work with Engineering, Sales, and Project Management to identify quotes that will align with timeline as well as discuss alternatives should vendors not be able to meet their delivery dates
• Receive packing slips against Purchase Orders for site deliveries to support 3-way matching
• Work internally with Accounts Payable to review and approve invoices for payment
• Work with vendors to ensure prompt and on-time payment of invoices
• Attend regular Kick Off and Project Status Report meetings
• Understand and review technical terms in an RFQ and Quote
• Excellent time management skills to handle a large volume of Purchase orders
• Ability to multitask

Required Qualifications

• 5 years of previous Purchasing experience working on construction projects
• A Technical / Engineering background or previous capital project exposure
• The ability to source materials and contractor services
• Review RFQ and quotation submissions and the associated terminology to determine whether they meet expectations
• Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (including pivot tables and Vlookup)
• Be a quick learner with the confidence to ask clarifying questions
• Previous ERP experience purchasing material for projects, including SAP
• Tenacious work ethic to ensure the project stays on schedule
• The ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
