LJB Inc. is seeking a Construction Observer for a project in Ashtabula, OH. This short-term, project-based position is suitable for retirees or those seeking flexible work, with compensation starting at 25+ per hour based on experience and regional market standards.

You will review contract guidelines, inspect waterline work, verify material deliveries, and document inspections. Travel within Ohio may be required; strong safety awareness and the ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree preferred.
• 3+ years of fabrication, installation and/or construction related experience.
• Experience with lead water line replacement and lead piping documentation is required.
• Ability to pass background checks, drug tests and MVR check.
• Physical: able to traverse the worksite in varying weather and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Review signed contract agreements between contractor and the water utility company for project guidelines.
• Inspect waterline construction and service connections for proper settings and numbering.
• Review prints and perform field checks of plans.
• Attend pre-construction meetings and perform daily inspections of waterline construction.
• Locating main line valves and verifying shut-down operations.
• Deliver and verify material deliveries and inventory accuracy.
• Prepare valve cards and hydrant care and map placement of distribution networks.
• Maintain daily inspection, mileage, and time reports for each project.
• Complete as-built documentation per utility guidelines.
