Job summary

Progressive Companies in Grand Rapids is seeking a Project Architect I to lead the design and documentation of small to moderate projects, independently managing models, drawings, and specifications while coordinating with engineers and consultants.

You will mentor junior staff, complete AXP, and pursue licensure with firm support; ESOP ownership and a hybrid work schedule reinforce our culture of excellence and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Experience in producing architectural models, drawings, and specs.
• Ability to coordinate across disciplines with engineers and outside consultants.
• Pursue licensure with firm support for AXP and AREs.
• Strong knowledge of building codes and sustainability principles.
• Leadership and mentoring of junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Produce architectural models, contract documents, and technical specifications on assigned projects.
• Run design and planning analysis and occupancy studies.
• Write project specifications that align with drawings.
• Coordinate the technical design across disciplines with internal teams and outside consultants.
• Catch problems before senior review and ensure QA/QC.
• Resolve field issues on site visits and communicate with the contractor.
• Become the primary client/consultant contact on projects and maintain progress updates.
• Complete AXP and licensure path; NCARB registration, AIA membership, and LEED AP BD+C supported.
• Mentor junior staff and participate in Lessons Learned sessions.
