Job summary

Gensler’s Government practice in Washington, D.C. is growing, and we are seeking a Project Architect with strong design leadership to join our team.

You will lead architectural and interior design efforts for public sector clients, guiding concepts from marketing through construction administration. You will collaborate on design storytelling, material selections, and FF&E, while mentoring staff and ensuring alignment with client resilience goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • 6-10 years project experience in an architectural practice with public sector experience.
  • Experience with FF+E, furniture systems, colors and materials.
  • Experience leading teams through all design phases for government/public sector projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead creative efforts of architecture and interior design teams from marketing to construction administration.

Your Role

Gensler’s Government practice in Washington, D.C. is growing, and we are looking for a Project Architect to join our team. We provide a wide range of services to our public sector clients (Federal, State and Local government) - from programming and strategic planning to design and implementation of spaces. As a Project Architect in our dynamic Washington, D.C. office you are passionate about your craft and combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for clients. You have exceptional conceptual design skills, and a portfolio of innovative design solutions with an emphasis on workplace projects.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the creative efforts of multiple architecture and interior design teams from the initial marketing stages through construction administration
  • In collaboration with a team, create overall design concepts, storytelling and design presentation strategies
  • Select and present fixtures, furniture systems, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and decorative lighting
  • Generate concepts for finish plans, RCP, lighting plans, specifications, material selections, and millwork
  • Be a fearless integrator and advocate for diverse points of view and expansive thinking
  • Drive alignment in our designs with our, and our clients’, resilience goals
  • Build and sustain client relationships, act as the primary design interface with clients, team members, and a wide range of consultants and collaborators, both internal and external
  • Creatively align solutions to budgets
  • Mentor and develop teammates; provide creative direction to design teams
  • Participate in client development, marketing and talent acquisition efforts
  • Integrate new technology and tools on projects (AR, VR, computational design, etc.)
  • Interact with clients while representing Gensler at meetings and presentations
  • Be a voice in our Community for the Power of Design
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • 6-10 years project experience in an architectural practice, including demonstrated success in public sector and/or secure work
  • Advanced knowledge of the design process, including FF+E, furniture systems and specifications, color and materials
  • Experience collaborating with a team of Interior Designers, Architects and consultants through all phases of the design process from concept through CA for government/public sector projects (both federal and/or local)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Strong proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency with SketchUp, InDesign, 3D Studio Max, Enscape, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and Miro is preferred
  • Registered/Licensed Architect (if you are in the process of taking AREs, feel free to contact nicole_kumar@gensler.com to determine whether another opening could be a match for your background)
  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and building structures
  • LEED, Fitwell or WELL accreditation is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices; Portfolios will ideally include at least one project (especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, and/or Net Zero Building certification) with this particular focus, which we look forward to discussing during the interview

Compensation
